Wide Body

The design concept is excellent, and the snap-out connector works well. However, the case is about 1 mm too wide in both width and height, making it difficult or impossible to insert two of them, either horizontally or vertically, into adjacent ports on a machine. Some cabled USB connectors also have excess width or height, and that's a tight squeeze, as well. So, for the case, a stronger, tougher plastic might allow the Cruzer case to be smaller in both critical dimensions, and eliminate this functional problem. Including the powered hub, I have 9 devices plugged into the 5 ports on my 'desktop replacement' laptop, and that might be somewhat unusual vis á vis the usual user.

I have used Sandisk products for my cameras and thought this was a good buy. But it is cheap. It's made of slippery cheap plastic and the little bar to attach a short cord is so hard to use, that I am probably going to take the unit back. Sandisk should design it with a curve under the bar rather than a 90 degree space or attach a ring themselves.

I do like the sliding usb connector rather than a cap--caps get lost.

  No, there is no lanyard. If you are looking for a flash drive that can use a lanyard, may I suggest the Staples item#923659, flash drive with a lanyard hole, and item#357510, lanyard.

  Check your folders on your computer to determine how big the files are you want to save on this flash drive. Right clicking on file or folder and going to properties will show you what the size is.

  If you are talking about MP3 encoded songs, it depends on the encoded bit rate, song length, music type, and many other variables. I have an 8 GB Cruzer with 980 songs on it, with most songs encoded at 192 Kb/second or higher.

  No. However it's all too easy to use TrueCrypt to make an encrypted disk image and store it on the drive. In order to access it you'll need to have TrueCrypt installed on any computer that you want to access the file from. Instructions for how to do so can be found at .
