Bought a new cell phone, then had to get a micro SD card so I could store pictures I was taking with the phone. Next problem was to move photos to computer. This Sandisk MicroMate is a nifty little connector that plugs into a USB port on your computer. The micro SD card then goes into the MicroMate slot. Ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, and it works great! You can accomplish the same thing with a micro USB cord, so check prices to see which way is more cost effective.

I use the mobile mate extensively and keep it on my keychain so I'll always have it with me. It's small size is great for pocket portability. However, the plastic is not very durable and I find myself having to buy new hardware every few months when the sides wear out and the connection gets loose. The product would benefit greatly from a metal band around the USB connection.

Pros

  • Easy To Use
  • Great Value
  • Large Capacity
  • Reliable Performance
  • Writes/Reads fast

Cons

  • Have To Open Cell Phone

Best Uses

  • Portable images/multimedia

Comments about SanDisk MobileMate Duo:

Allows easy transfer of pictures from computer to cell phone. Only con is you have to remove the memory card from the phone to use. It is still easier than reformating pictures taken with a digital camera or other non-cellular device and then going through cell phone desktop applications to transfer them. It is also easier to insert memory card than some card readers.

Device is easy to setup and use even if your a novice. I found it on the clearance table with a fantastic markdown. It still would have been worth the money at full price.

          Comments about SanDisk MobileMate Duo:

I first bought the SanDisk MobileMate Duo by SanDisk because I had lost my micro disk reader that I had bought for my Sony GoPro video camera. I had been excited to see my new snowboard videos that I had just finished recording, but when I went to grab the card reader, I discovered that it was missing, making my mini disk card completely useless. I went to Staples to buy a replacement, and discovered that SanDisk offered a duo package. The extra card reader is great to have on hand, and I love the flexibility to be able to use either the card slot or USB port to transfer video onto my computer.

            • A:

The issue with Windows Vista is that not all versions support USB 2.0, if you version has been patched to run USB 2.0 you are good to go. If not you'll have to download the patch from Microsoft and upgrade Vista. After you do this the SanDisk MobileMate Duo will be plug-n-play (no drivers required).

I have transfered music to it for my cell phone and it works great. So it is possible...just depends on the amount of memory you have open to transfer it to. ex: Not enough space on my phone & won't hold all the info you want to put on it.

It dosen't come with a chip, just the adapter for a micro chip, you insert your micro chip into the usb gadget and then plug the gadget into a usb port on your computer and transfer info or pictures to your computer. don't know why it comes with an adapter, my 2gb micro chip came with one when I bought it.

            • A:

No, this is a Micro Memory Card Reader. It works specifically with Micro SD, Micro SDHC, and M2 memory cards. They are the tiny ones 9/16th" x 7/16th" or 10cm x 15cm used in cell phones. Also, they compare the size of the SD adapter (same size as the SD memory card) with the reader. Arachnae
