Great piece of office furniture!

I purchased this file cabinet for my new home office. I had purchased another Sauder product, the Appleton collection computer desk, which I absolutely love. I wanted to get the lateral file to match, but sadly, only one of the two drawers is designed to accommodate hanging files, making it worthless, in my opinion (Note to Sauder: you need to fix that! What were you thinking??). After an exhaustive search, I decided on this product, which wasn't the color I wanted. But I'd had great success with my Sauder desk (I'm a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to furniture construction), so I wanted to stick with their products. I wasn't disappointed. It's a solid piece of furniture, very sturdy, yet attractive. I've even gotten to like the color, even though it doesn't match anything else in my office. Oh well. The other thing I like about it is I needed a file cabinet deep enough so that I could set my printer/copier/scanner/fax on top and still have room to set up some other items (picture frames, iPod). I was amazed at the range of depths of lateral files out there...but happily, this one suited my needs perfectly! Good quality item, good value for the price.

2nd damaged box delivered...ughhh

I have the lateral file, and executive desk from this Sauder collection and really like it. The collection itself is a 5, but this shopping and delivery experience is a 1 so I averaged the two in the rating. I needed more file space so I waited and waited until I got a link for a discount and then made the purchase for a second file cabinet. (It's a nice file cabinet, well-made, sturdy, etc.) It arrived and the box had multiple rips and tears in it, one on the face of the box facing out by the front door that was 5 inches long and you could see the wood and it was scratched. Called Customer Service and they said they would pick it up and deliver another one the followed day. I got home from work, and sure enough it was there - yet, again, the box was torn and this time a whole gouge is missing from the edge of the wood. I don't have time for this!!! Good product, bad service.

The file works ok but very difficult to assemble. I would have preferred to buy it assembled. Not the best quality.

I work from home and thus need good quality office furniture that is functional, durable, and looks good! I have the desk, tech center, and lateral filing cabinet from this set and am very pleased with the efficiency it adds to my day to have a place for everything and everything in its place! It takes around 3-4 hours to set these pieces up but that is to be expected. Directions were easy to follow and all the parts were there.

Instructions were quite easy to understand and follow. Took about 4 hours, including identifying the various parts. They could be marked better so the builder did not have to figure out which part it was. Also the drawer bottoms could be build out of heavier material, so you could lay items in the drawer if you didn't want to put hang ing folders on all 4 hangers. My shipment was missing the 2 feet but it only took 4 days to get replacements. Thanks for your quick reaction to that request. All in all , a good file for the cost.

This is a great file cabinet, has that furniture look vs office. The action of the drawers is smooth. Bought 2 for my home office, where it will receive light use. If you need a workhorse, this may not be for you. Don't know if it will stand up to heavy use or heavy weight, but for the price and the furniture look, it is a winner for me.
