This drive is great. I just got it for christmas and i put ghost recon on it and it runs the game great even though it is a 5 gb game. It runs it fast without lag and does what it is supposed to do. I like the feature that there is no software and it works out off the box. It is a fas as my internal hard drive. Plus it has plenty of space on it. Some people said that it was noisy, but it is not. It only makes noise for me when i start it up and if you don't use when it goes into sleep mode. I am telling my friends about this to get one so they could put all their games on it. Hope this helped.

I had checked the reviews of this product here immediately after I purchased it on Black Friday... most are gone now! It had (up to that time) received an average three star rating. This is what it is like now:
"Old" reviews before BEFORE Black Friday sale (have been reduced to only TWO).
Review dates & totals per day below:
11-28-09 (1) three stars 12-02-09 (1) one star
"New" reviews AFTER Black Friday sale:
12-15-09 (49) 12-16-09 (13) 12-17-09 (3)
18 consecutive days AFTER black friday the reviews start...and end three days later (today is Dec. 23rd in the a.m.) VERY odd indeed to say the least.
Most of the complaints about it (pre Black Friday) was the drive had started to "click" - from day one for some and weeks or months down the road for others. Check Seagate's website about this in the forums section plus other retail reviews. MANY people have reported the clicking and the eventual failure of the drive in less than a year's time. Apparently, Seagate was replacing the faulty drives with more faulty drives - not good. I have yet to decide about keeping it or not. The great black friday price makes me want to 'take a chance' on it, yet the 'clicking drive' reviews tell me not too.

a month later you will start hearing clicking sounds.... [...]so all you can do is exchange it with Seagate. I should have stayed with Western Digital drive products. The quality that used to be in Seagate products years ago is gone.

I made a back up right out of the box without any problems. It took a while but it is a USB device. Due to its construction I would not take it on the road- it should have a dedicated spot on your desk. I was hoping to use it to backup a clients PC while doing upgrades but that will not happen. As the name implies- it is an expansion drive not a portable drive.

We've been happy with this company's hard drives in the past. So, with its reputation and Staples great price in their weekly print and online ad, our photography company purchased the drive for one of our computer's primary backup.[...]. What the ad neglected to say was that this particular drive was for PC only and not Mac users. After contacting Staples about the problem, it efficiently and quickly picked up the hard drive from our office and we received our refund. Low marks to Staples for the ad not specifying for PC Only and high marks for the Return process.

I use this drive with the Windows 7 backup service. It was "plug and play" easy to set up. I did change the energy efficiency settings, because it was initially clicking loudly each time it cycled on and off. Now, it runs quietly when accessed. I've only been using it for a couple of months, but so far appears to be a very good value--sale priced at [$] for 1GB external storage.
