I became concerned that my existing drive was nearing the end of its useful life. It took forever to boot and sometimes I had to start the computer multiple times. And it was packed solid with original data. When I bought the computer 280GB seemed like more space that I'd ever use in a lifetime. The Seagate replacement used a utility to make itself an exact copy of the original. I left it alone for a few hours to do the data transfer, so I don't know how long it took. But it was perfect and the new drive has operated 24/7 without problems. It boots perfectly and it has filled all of the requirements to be my replacement. [...]

Difficult to get the drive to show up in the drive list.

BEWARE THE INSTALL PROGRAM!!!

The Seagate installation program selected a full drive to format and showed the drive as "blank", so I assumed that was the letter the computer assigned to it and formatted it. I lost 2 years worth of downloaded data because of that stupid program. And all Seagate did was point me to their data recovery service. For a fee, of course.

The drive itself has been reliable so far. It's quiet and runs at the speed you'd expect.

My final verdict? Good hardware, horrible software.

After going for cheaper drives in the past, I have come back to Seagate's best drive. It has a great 5-year warranty which thus far I've never exercised. This is my 3rd drive and no problems with any. If you get it on sale, it is a great buy for a drive that should cover you for quite some time.

Yes, it will work in your computer. All desktop hard drives are the same size so fitting isn't a problem. The only issue you may have is that your power supply is only a 160 watt, older power supplies may not have the power connector this is looking for, but power adapters are easy to come by. Look for a SATA II adapter if you run into any trouble.

Your system is not compatible with any SATA hard drives. I would recommend the Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB Hard Drive as it is still available and a very reliable drive.

Yes. Both PC's use the same SATA interface. "But" - the BIOS (circa 2005) might not support this large of a drive as a boot device.
