I installed this on an older IBM computer that had a single 150gb hard drive that was full. My initial plan was to just install the new drive as a secondary drive & move some of my data over to it to free up some space. As I began the project I ran into problems right away with the computer not recognizing the new drive but a quick scan of the instructions (something I seldom like to do) revealed a quick fix which involved putting a jumper (included) on the drive to deal with the older motherboard which worked like a charm. While setting up the new drive (to my surprise) I was offered several choices one of which was to completely cloan the old hard drive via Acronis software which was included. I started this process & basically left my computer thinking this procedure might be done sometime the next day only to come back a short time later to find the drive ready to go. I have no idea how long this took but probably 20 or 30 minutes. Any how with two identical drives now in the computer I tried to set the new drive up as the primary in the computer's bios but couldn't figure this out but I don't think it was an option. So I went back into the computer and switched the cables on the motherboard. Backing up a bit there were only two Sata hard drive connections on my motherboard so I figured the primary drive must have to be in the first slot. At this point I figure why even keep the old hard drive in the computer so I completely removed it, set the new drive up in the same location in the case, closed the case and rebooted. I wrapped the old hard drive up and stuck it in my fireproof safety box and haven't had a problem since. It's been two weeks now and so far still no problems

After doing some online research and determining that I wanted the ST3500641AS-RK drive, I found it for a good price at staples.com. Not wanting to wait for shipping, I picked one up at the store instead. So far so good.
After installing it in the computer I noticed that it was recognized by the system as a ST3500418AS. Big differences between the two: a) 3 year warranty on the 418AS vs the 5 year warranty on the 641AS-RK b) no NCQ on the 418AS.
Looking on the site, there is only a small price difference between the two models, while elsewhere the price gap is larger. Hmnn....

Great device. I lost my back up drive, 7 years old and I needed a new back-up. I was looking for a fast reliable and quiite drive since it is exposed. I use an external carrier where I can change hardives to accomplish different purposes. I found this hard drive to be the perfect solution for my needs. I also like the warranty. I know these drives last a long time. Hoever it is good to know that there is a good warranty behind the product. These drive have a no nosence warranty and when the company is called they are very reponsive. Just a great product.

Yes, this drive should fit in your Gateway. This could certainly replace your existing drive. You should also have room to use this as a second drive since your model computer is listed on the Gateway site as having room for two hard drives.

The Dell Optimax GX-270 specifications call for a maximum of a 120gb SATA drive. Some users report being able to successfully install a bigger drive. Other users report severe problems with a bigger drive.

                1 answer

                • A:

Yes you can. The WD2500JS and the ST3500641AS have the SATA interface. If your WD2500JS is still a good hard drive and you are looking for more space you can add the Seagate to your existing Western Digital Drive instead of replacing it.
