Seagate has had a great reputation for a long time and this drive reflects that reputation in design, speed, and quiet operation. But there are some things that I just don't like. First, no power switch. Had I known that up front I would not have bought it. Second, it seems that if one does not install the accompanying software (which is okay but not swell), the drive does not operate correctly. My original intent was to run this drive as a network device, but that obviously can't happen. Still, a lot of storage and the drive works well so long as it's attached to a workstation.

Only drawback (I found out after I purchased) is that if you are networked within your household...you'll need to physically install the software on each machine and plug the drive into each machine if you choose to do a backup. If it's connected to your primary workstation then Automatic backups work flawlessly. After talking with Seagate they told me there's another drive that will have Automatic backup over the network.

Overall a great drive. Very quite. USB 2.0 is nice. This drive just has a single power cord with a rather small plug. VERY nice to get away from the two part cords with the big power boxes. No power switch. If it's plugged in and connected via USB it is on. Be prepared to hunt down some software if you are using w/Mac OS 10.5. My system did not recognize my drive initially as a writable drive. Download a small drive formatting program from Seagate's website and you can partition it as you see fit! It has been working perfectly as an incremental backup drive for about a month without issue.

Converted to Mac storage device with no problems. Journaled the formatting and Time Machine recognizes the drive for additional storage.
