This NAS took foreveer to get recognized on two networks. Horrible software and configuration. Definitely not plug n play. Wasted hours on my weekend.

I installed the drive in a mixed Windows 7 & XP environment and had installation problems immediately on the XP systems. I spent 4 hours on the phone (3 different callls) with tech support but it was very hard to resolve the issues and have the backup work on the XP systems. They were finally able to resolbve and it now has been working for a day so we will see how it does moving forward. Tech support was friendly and polite something that you do not see in many companies these days. Compressed files seeem to be a problem.

Great value for the money. I use it to backup my 3 Macs on my home network and it works flawlessly. It was a little challenge to configure, but all networked attached storage (NAS) drives are. This one was no harder and maybe even a little easier than most.

Out of the box it allows you to bakup up to 3 Macs and/or PCs. For another $50 you can backup unlimited additional computers (not sure if that's $50 each or $50 total, but I think it's $50 total). You have to be on the local network for the drive to be accessible for backing up (e.g., if your drive is on your home network and you're at the office, you can't backup until you get back home).

You can make the drive accessible remotely, like from the office, for remote access to files (but not for backup). For example, you can put your music files on the drive and stream them to your computer at the office or to your smartphone or tablet (instead of having to store the songs on your devices or pay for a streaming service).

For another $10 one-time fee you can get a bunch of other features, including MySync, which is a DropBox like function that lets you and unlimited others sync directories on the drive with directories on your and others' computers.
