    apparently I received a bad one, less than two weeks after install, reinstalling OS, programs, data from failing HDD, the new drive failed - click click click, computer does not even recognize it as a drive. That will be my last seagate drive. Too many failures.

            I bought this drive to update a laptop I inherited when my main computer died. It took all of 10 mins to install and that was because I dropped a screw. I installed windows in no time and I was ready to go with a brand new hdd. I even partitioned it for work once my office desktop went out.

                      You can't connect one hard drive directly to another. If the old hard drive went bad you might not be able to get any files off of it.

                      I would recommend you bring the laptop and new hard drive into a computer repair shop and let them take a look at it. At the very least they can swap the new hard drive for you and try to recover files off the old hard drive.

                      Seagate Momentus® Internal 2.5-inch SATA 5400 RPM 500GB Hard Drive is compatible with your PS3, however you have to format it as FAT32 driver. Sounds as if its formatted as NTFS, which is why it can be seen by the PS3.
