Comments about Sharp XE-A507 Cash Register with Barcode Scanner:

Book is very hard to understand. This unit locks up and we cant do business until we figure out how to unlock it. Book is of NO help.If I had it to do over I would have gotten a cheeper unit. This is a very expensive paper weight for us. Should have come with a disc. on how to set up and use. Also troubleshooting would be nice.

Comments about Sharp XE-A507 Cash Register with Barcode Scanner:

Overall it is a good machine. However the build quality is not the best, but then again for [$] I dont expect it to be indestructible. Within a one day of operation I ran into a few problems with the money tray. One of the tray hands that hold the money broke, meaning the hing that holds the spring broke. Also, another spring is smaller than the rest, so occasionally the hand that holds the money down springs open while the drawer is closed, this means that the register only opens 2/4 of the when. This kind of is upsetting because someone basically couldnt find the same size spring and so just threw in whatever they could find. Sharp customer service for this is just awful. They have service centers only in select states so it could be hard to get something replaced. I am currently jumping hoops to get my problem solved. I wish they had put a usb keyboard port so I can enter in name of product easier (you dont have to put names).

Is this product compatible with Hypercom T4220 serviced by credit card service provider other than First Data? I'm using Elavon and need to know whether Elavon Hypercom T4220 also works with this cash register before purchasing it.

We are thinking of buying this for the retail part of our small museum. I just discovered QuickBooks makes a product for non-profits. Is this cash register compatible with that or only with QuickBooks Pro?

On the Sharp web site, it says this cash register comes with a "free Credit Card Terminal Offer with Merchant Services".
Will any model credit card reader work with this cash register or are there specific models only. What type of plug in connection does the reader have to have to connect to the cash register?

              1 answer

              • A:

Unfortunately the only model card reader that works with this model is going to be the Hypercom T4220, which is the one that is offered free with purchase.

It does not seem that this model of cash register can accept any kind of credit card reader, there are no inputs for it, it is simply an electronic cash drawer.

Starting today, all computers from Staples are being sold with Windows 8 preloaded. Is Windows 8 compatible with this cash register?

No, this cash register is only compatible with Windows XP, Vista & 7. It is not compatible with Windows 8.

            • Q:

For inputing prices for hand scanner, is this done directly through the cash register or do I have to upload data from a spreadsheet from an external computer?
Asked on 10/27/2012 by Desert Dog from Ridgecrest, CA

              1 answer

              • A:

To answer this simply, both, you can input the information manually or directly connect with a SD-Card to a computer using special register software like Wasp.

            • Q:

Production says the credit card terminal is "directly hardwired" to the register. Since the credit card reader has to be purchased seperately, what kind of cable/fitting is used to connect to the terminal?
Asked on 10/27/2012 by Desert Dog from Ridgecrest, CA

              1 answer

              • A:

The register utilizes a standard RS232 (COM2) connection to directly wire the EFT terminal to the register.

            • Q:

The instruction manual DOES NOT include information as to how to change prices after they are originally input via the scanner. How do you change the price of items when originally input via scanner? I see how to change price via Department Number, however, not when you input after scanning the item's UPC code. Please advise.
