Powerful, Pervasive Odor Permeates House

The odor from these markers is way too strong to use them indoors. I used a marker to write on some boxes and then went out for a few hours. Upon opening the door to my house later that day, the strong marker smell assaulted my nostrils all the way from the room down the hall, where the boxes were. I contacted the Sharpie company and they explained that the main ingredient in the markers, Xyelene, does have a strong odor, and that the markers should be used in a well-ventilated area. It took a couple of days for the smell to dissipate in my house. I think I'll go back to using Avery Marks-A-Lot; it has hardly any odor at all.

HI, I use the Sharpee Black markers to
19C English boxes and when the ebony edging
is missing on the edge of boxes or some missing
it is great to use for that. Also sometimes
boxes inside along ledges were not made with
wood veneers and they were blackened so it is
great for that to touch up. Also when
there is a piece of ebony missing ( small piece )
I can use wood filler and then it hardens like
wood and sand it and then stain it and then I can
use the black marker to make it look like ebony
But you have to put a finish on it for the black
marker to stay but it is pretty and makes
the box look great. thanks !!
