I create and sell hand tooled leather items and use Sharpies for coloring. They have the best colors and dyes that hold fast of all markers I have tried. Reccomend them highly

Powerful, Pervasive Odor Permeates House

The odor from these markers is way too strong to use them indoors. I used a marker to write on some boxes and then went out for a few hours. Upon opening the door to my house later that day, the strong marker smell assaulted my nostrils all the way from the room down the hall, where the boxes were. I contacted the Sharpie company and they explained that the main ingredient in the markers, Xyelene, does have a strong odor, and that the markers should be used in a well-ventilated area. It took a couple of days for the smell to dissipate in my house. I think I'll go back to using Avery Marks-A-Lot; it has hardly any odor at all.
