I don't know what everyone is talking about, unless they're not using it right or unless they're expecting it to do more than other writing utensils.
I've been using this for a while now and I love it. No more tearing the paper because you forgot to click the lead out or having to replace the lead so often, or having to sharpen a wooden pencil (which, for the teacher that tried using it for the classroom, would you rather all your kids get up to run to the pencil sharpener all the time).
Yeah, I tried playing with it and making it do what everyone negatively wrote about. If you hold it at an angle or write lightly it will skip a little, but this isn't like a regular pencil. You don't have to be careful not to push down hard and break the lead. I hold it straight and push down like a pen, haven't had any skips. Even writing fast, which is what I usually do... and no skips.
And as far as not being able to erase it days later. Do you really go back to a paper days later and find that you have to erase something? Really?? I like that you can't erase it days later. One thing about pencil, it wears off and smudges easily, which unlike what someone else mentioned that I tried, this doesn't smudge, unless of course your hand is wet.
I'm not trying to put down anyones opinion at all, so I hope I haven't irritated anyone. I just don't agree when someone gives a product a 1. Even if I hate something, I give it the benefit of the doubt. It at least does what it's advertised to do.
Love it Sharpie!

I was really excited about these pencils because of the great quality of the pens, and the fact that the lead would never break (I hate when the lead in my mechanical pencils break and go flying through the air... and then *Click click click*). I love pencils... I almost would take them over pen any day! Maybe it was the pack I got... I'm not sure. But I was very dissatisfied in the quality of the lead's clarity. It almost looked a pen that was running out of ink or too cold to write with. I thought that maybe it was because I wasn't on a harder, smooth surface (like a desk - I was writing in my planner), but even after I moved to such a surface, the quality didn't change. I'm willing to give this product another shot, but I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll just stick to my regular #2's and mechanical pencils.
Comments about Sharpie® Liquid Pencils, .5 mm, Black Barrel, 2/Pack:
I like how it writes like a pen. Another nice thing I tried out was erasing using a common eraser and it worked, at least that time. My hope, as a teacher is that it will work on scantron tests. Time will tell that for me.

I think this product is a great idea! I like to write in pencil so I can erase and keep things neater but that can get smudged and messy. This pencil does not smudge and erases cleanly and easily. I hope Sharpie will start making them in .7mm and then in various graphite colors - how fun would that be? :)
