The Sanford Company has seemingly attempted to bridge the gap between their Sharpie® marking pens and "everyday writing pens" by providing "click" versions of their Sharpie® marking pens with "Fine" and "Ultra Fine" tips. The narrow tips of the Ultra Fine versions simply don't endure the strains of everyday use and are seemingly vulnerable to being destroyed when used over a brief amount time, especially when carried. The pens are still useful, thus far, when kept within a more controlled environment such as a kitchen or office, but have not withstood the rigors of transporting in purses or cars, perhaps due to temperature changes or handling. I have received a similar complaint from a business representative of an office supply store who verified that the tip will break down during constant use. This review, however, applies only to the narrow Ultra-fine versions while the Fine (broader tip) versions have proven to endure much better without complaint. An added note, the "marker version" of the Ultra-fine tip will bleed through paper while the "writing-pen version", with the same tip, is advertised not to bleed and has proven to be safe for paper, thus far, in my experience. We greatly enjoy the convenience of the click version markers and writing pens, and encourage Sanford to maintain their pursuit of this technology to hopefully resolve the tip issue. I also urge them to improve distinguishability between their marker versions, recommending varying coloration on the click-button, perhaps with striping or color-capping to facilitate selection from a cup container. One final note, if Sharpie® customers find that the standard marking pen ink soon wears, I have found that the laundry-version marker ink endures the elements much better. As a disc golf enthusiast, I now use and trust the laundry-version pen ink to the standard Sharpie® to weather the abuses that plastic golf discs receive during play.
