Acts like a simple switch, NOT A KVM

Comments about Siig® CE-KV0111-S1 HDMI KVM Switch, 4 Port:

I will be returning this ASAP. I have hooked it up initially to two PCs. This does not act like other KVMs I have had (and this was supposed to replace my Belking DVI KVM).

Both PCs (Dell 8100 and Dell 660s) act as though when switched between the two like the hardware has been physically disconnected (how a switch acts, not how a KVM acts). The problem with this is that Windows 7 will then resize the desktop to the lowest video configuration the card supports (in my case 800x600). This is true of both computers. When I switch back, the desktop and all windows have been resized and relocated to fit into what would be the lowest resolution configuration, then the resolution is adjust to max (1920x1080) but the windows have all been moved & resized. Happens every time.

Both PCs act as thought the mouse and keyboard have also been hot unplugged from them. There is a noticable delay in re-enumerating the mouse on the 660s (a couple seconds) but for some reason the 8100 takes about 12 seconds for the mouse to become "alive" again. The keyboard does not suffer from the same fate; it is alilve after switch almost instantly.

Also, when my 8100 is plugged into slot 1, after ~12 secs, the SIIG will just switch to Slot 4 for no reason. I thought that maybe it was getting an errant wireless signla from remote or something, but when I moved 8100 to slot 3 from slot 1 (leaving the 660s in slot 2) it no longer did this, leading me to believe there is something special about slot 1 (the doc even says if using this with other non-PC HDMI devices to be sure the PC is in slot 1).

There is no hot key to switch between ports; either use the switch on the front or a little remote control provided (the remote was nice, but the Blekin had keyboard control wherein if I pressed Scroll-Lock twice then 1-4, it would trigger a switch to the port, much more convenient than picking up a remote).

To me this is more like a simple HDMI switch box than a KVM. I bought a cheap HDMI Switch for the TV/BluRay/Consoles for $15 so for a simple switch this seems way over priced (and probably since it was cheaper than Belkin HDMI KVM that probably explains the poor implementation). I'll return this, spend a few extra dollars and get something that works.

I have tried various configurations, slots, etc. and the results were all the same. I feel confident that the performance was due to the poor implementation
