I have been using Sony DVD's,+R and -R,for about twenty years. I have never experienced a glitch nor any kind of malfunction. Sony is highly reliable. Over time it is considered that some DVD'S may get 'corrupted' if uses pertain to "backup". However, I have not found that to be so with Sony. Archiving of pictures, as well as burning streaming video, in addition to dvd to dvd burning perform flawlessly. I really cannot see any difference in the + or - format. I believe this would be useful for the type of DVD player and whether it would play either or both formats. Quality and resolution of Sony DVD's surpasses most all other DVD manufacturers. I've been a radio technician for over thirty years and if there is any negative aspect associated with Sony DVD's, I have yet to see or hear of it. Sony is very sound, I would not use any other DVD.

Next Time Verbatim

First disk of the 50-disk stack refused to burn and gave my Panasonic DVD burner severe heartburn (and gave me an opportunity to view the Panasonic's error recovery up close and personal). Didn't expect Sony to send out bad disks. Next two disks went smoothly, but there's still 47 more disks to go. Never had a bad disk -- NEVER -- when I used Verbatim disks. I would hesitate to recommend these Sony DVD-R disks.

We record movies and TV shows using EyeTV, and we go through a lot of recordable DVDs. The Sony media works very well for this application. We have never had a problem.

When I began producing home videos I tried several brands that failed at one time or another. They either failed to burn properly or would not play on my DVD player. A clerk suggested using Sony DVD-R which I did and after burning a few hundred discs there has not been a single failure.

  -R and +R were once competing types of DVD media. Since all players work with both types, there really is no difference now!

  From information obtained by internet searches...
  
  The main difference between DVD-R & DVD+R:
  1)Primarily: COMPATIBILITY !!!
  2)PRICE...
  3)The way the recorders format and write/rewrite Discs.
  4)The DVD recorder's built-in defects management...
  You May be able to record one DVD+R disc partially on a
  Computer and partially on TV or DVD Recorder AND possibly
  edit filenames,playlists, and movie and song titles.
  5)DVD-R discs can only be used one time and when you remove it from the drive, you can't do anything else to the disc.
  6)DVD+R may let you add more to them but you may not erase data already on the disc.
  
  BE aware that some equipment is only compatible with one or the other NOT always Both !! Verify compatibility before purchase or you will have wasted $$$!! Good Luck. :)
