So far this little recorder has worked great for its purpose. I have used it for 3 interviews and it picks up our conversation really well. One of the interviews was outside so there was quite a bit of background noise going on but the recorder pretty much just got our voices and i can understand everything. It seems easy enough to use.

We bought several of these so our teachers could record student responses. Teachers found them easy to use and start recording. Sound quality was good. Retrieving files directly from the device (as with a flash drive or camera) was easy. However, the Sound Organizer software could only be run by an Administrator or Power User, not a normal user. This is not acceptable in our environment.

I had an older model and used it for 5 years with Windows XP. When we upgraded our computers, the software was not compatible with Windows 7. I had to buy a new recorder for meeting minutes. I am able to convert the older recordings to the MP3 format and can use the new software with the older version. This recorder has fine tuned the older version from the sound quality to buffering those unwanted sounds. I am quite happy.

Comments about Sony ICD PX312 2GB Digital Voice Recorder:

I was looking for an inexpensive digital recorder to replace a CD recorder that we use for recording church services. This turns out to be just what we need. I had to purchase an inexpensive RCA male to 3.5mm plug to go into the audio input from the mixing board. No more CDs to buy and very simple to use. Did not feel a need to use the software included in the package; just copied to and from the internal folders.

Does digital pitch control mean that when you speed up the playback it won't sound like Alvin & the chipmunks? What if I want that option?
Asked on 4/12/2012 by Anonymous from sacramento, Ca.

                  • A:

Pitch control is another term for playback speed. Your voice will still have a higher pitch when sped up during playback.
