Please be aware that, as of this writing, the software will NOT install on Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 you will not be able to transfer the audio files to your computer until they decide to release an update.

I read a few reviews on this and decided that I was going to select this product as my recorder of choice. My primary uses are for studying spanish - recording notes, word pronunciation etc. I did read a review that it was not compatible with Windows 7. This is not true. I copied all the install files to a folder on my desktop - on the install icon...right click select properties and change compatibility to Windows XP and check off run as administrator. The software installed fine this way. The drivers from the install indicated not compatible...but easy work around...just install the cable and plug the device into the laptop - the system recognized and installed the drivers successfully. As far as not being able to copy files or convert them...there was absolutely no issues creating some test recordings and getting them from the device to the laptop as MP3 file format. So far the device is working as expected and very handy.

Before purchasing the recorder I read some of the reviews here to see what others thought. One of the biggest complaints was the non-support of Windows 7. I've been using 7 for most of the last year in Beta form before Win 7 drivers were out. In most cases drivers intended for Vista have worked well. For this recorder I went to the Sony support website and downloaded the versions for Win 7 64-bit and it works like a charm. I have some classes comming up after the first of the year so time will tell about the recorder itself, first impression makes me think I'll be happy!

Extremely difficult to go from one recording to a separate recording. Not much use for more than 1 recording without downloading previous recording. Instructions weren't very helpful
