I love this appliance-- works as expected and has extra features I hadn't considered including audio in (from ipod or pandora on cell phone). However, just after a couple weeks of use, the CD stopped "catching." It would spin the disc, but unless the entire unit was fist-bumped repeatedly (like the old tube-type TV days!), the disc doesn't catch, and the CD won't play. Repeat this cycle several frustrating times, and it finally catches and plays. I don't know if this is my own unique situation, whether it has to do with the toaster over 1/2ft beneath (!) or whether it is a single unit hardware failure. Wish I were still under warranty-- it even happened within the period.

Bought this item & popped out the back up battery...could not get it back in. It bent the mechanism & then the battery signal flashes & won't quit. I returned it & got a new one but it did the same thing so I won't buy another. I like the item but if you need to replace the back up battery...GOOD LUCK!

Poorest radio reception

By fromutah

from Kaysville, UT

Comments about Sony® ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock Radio:

The sound is OK for CDs and Ipod for something in a small box. The radio reception was terrible. The unit uses the power cord as the antenna so there is no way to add a good antenna to improve reception. If you are 15 miles away from the stations you want to listen to, don't buy this one.

3 years in service

By Formathe

Comments about Sony® ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock Radio:

Had this for three years now and works as good now as on the first day. It doesn't like low powered radio stations so if that's all you got in your area step away from it, but the sound is great and the wife loves to plug her little shuffle into it and listen all day on the weekends.

Expected more from Sony

By Bigfoot

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Sony® ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock Radio:

This would be a great radio if I could rotate my kitchen 90 degrees. I rely on a 50K watt AM station for local news and weather. All I can get is static. I might have expected poor quality from some no-name brand but I am shocked that Sony would have overlooked the necessity for a way to rotate the internal ferrite antenna or at the very least, a connector for an external antenna. So much for technology. I can file a warranty claim but I'll have another $20. shipping invested in a radio that I already overpaid for and get a refurb back that may be no better. It's going back to the retailer for a refund.

Disappointed

By Nana1

from Mansfield, OH

Pros

  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Poor quality outside covering and static when other appliances are in use.

Best Uses

Comments about Sony® ICFCDK50 Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock Radio:

This unit has considerably more static than was ever experienced with a previous AM/FM undercounter radio in use for 20+ years. Also a section of the body of the radio partially melted when a candle was sitting on the counter nearby. Now the end knob that controls the timer and clock can not be turned and the first radio station selection button is non-operational. Unit is way overpriced for the quality.
