I bought these headphones a few days ago and I am blown away by the incredible sound! I own another pair of headphones from Sony which I also love, but I have had my eyes on this pair for some time. I saw them on sale at Staples, and I had a 10% off coupon, so I just went with it, and I have no regrets. Seems even better than noise cancelling headphones, and are described as "sound isolating," which is really great! As soon as I place them over my ears, even before I turn on the music, the external noise is drastically reduced to practically nothing. It's incredible! And I can use them with my Android phone. I can hear the caller clearly and they can hear me clearly as well. The remote doesn't work with the phone, but that's okay, it was said to be compatible with i-phones, so I'm happy I can use them at all with my phone. Overall, I am quite pleased and would highly recommend these headphones!

I have a studio in my house and use headphones a lot so I don't disturb the neighbors. My old Sony MDR-7506 headphones are very treble heavy and prolonged listening is not good for my hearing. My Bose noise-cancelers are better but use up batteries - so I wanted a solid, affordable replacement and, while shopping at Staples, saw these guys. The sound was good and they looked to be solidly built. The design was garish and teen-friendly but in the studio who cares? But what you don't see in the store is how short the lead is - a measly 48 inches long. Less than 20 minutes out of the box I had pulled the lead out of the console three times. On the fourth pull I bent the jack-plug. So, my conclusion is, if you want to look youthful and hip and need an affirming nod from the spotty teenager in the bus on the way home these are a good choice. But if you have any kind of professional usage in mind think carefully before purchasing.

Good headphones and a great value

Comments about Sony MDR-X10 X Headphones, Red:

I waited for several weeks to write a review to ensure that headphones where "broken in" (I, like many people, believe speakers do need to be used for 10-20 hours or more before they reach their full performance) and that my thoughts about their performance were clear. The pros: lightweight, two detachable cords, one with controls for iPod are both an appropriate length for use with a portable device (there's little more annoying with portable headphones than 2 meters of cable to try and figure out where to store) portable with a nice travel case, good seal on the ears and very strong base performance. The cons: the "on the ear" design can be tiring during extended use, the strong base at times sounds unrealistic and with some music tends to muddy the overall presentation. In fairness I own some very high-end headphones, so my standard of comparison is high. That said those headphones would be hard if not impossible to use with a portable device. I think these Sony's are a nice balance of physical design and sound quality and a good value. I got mine on a very nice sale which made the value even more outstanding. I would recommend them to a friend and if I had it to do over I would buy them again.

Good quality, but Sony's done better

Comments about Sony MDR-X10 X Headphones, Red:

I own several pairs of Sony headphones. I use a pair of MDR7506 headphones for my work as a freelance audio person on an ENG/EFP TV crew. They are considered the standard of the industry for TV or studio usage.
I also play guitar, and have a project studio at home. I have 3 pairs of MDRV700 headphones for that purpose (1 for me & 2 for guests). They were designed for DJ usage, and can handle very high SPLs (I even play guitar directly through them).
I'm telling you this to establish my cred. Both of those headphones are great and perfect for my applications.
That's why I thought I should try a pair of X10s. They are more expensive than either of the other 2 kinds I mentioned, have larger drivers, and appear to be competing with the trendy brands like Beats.
The X10s have a very short (4 feet) cord. They are also VERY bass heavy, and lack a good solid mid range. They can be EQed to what I consider a good tonal level. They do handle a lot of power though. They also come with a fancier case than my others. They do feel solid and well built.
If you are using them with an iPod or other MP3 player, you're probably good to go (especially if you have the ability to EQ them). Also, if you've never owned another high quality headphone, you'll probably love these. They are just a little large for my TV work, and a little too heavy bottom ended and short corded for my studio work.
BTW...I called Sony to see if I could get a longer cord with the twist attachment that these come with, and they don't make one.
Generally, I love Sony, and won't hold my judgements on this product against them.

Tried these after the second set of Beats headphones shorted out. They are very nice and I got them on sale for (( which was even better. The sound is awesome and they are very comfortable.

Comments about Sony MDR-X10 X Headphones, Red:

Due to recent events the Hubs and I had to move into a one bedroom apartment. I work from home and the Hubs is aging and beginning to lose his hearing. I was trying to think of way to allow him to continue to watch World War II movies at a rediculous volume while also allowing me to complete my work without distraction or becoming a felon. Then Staples had a sale on these headphones and I thought hey why not give these a try and see if they keep me from shattering the television in a fit of rage that only a married person could understand.

Quick delivery, great price. And when the television is blaring I can put these on, crank up my tunes, get my work accomplished and let the Magnificent Seven do theirs. They don't block out every sound, not sure if anything does that, but when I have my own music playing I am oblivious to other noise around me. Marriage saver. Highly recommended.
