Replacing my bookcases from a picture on the computer was a risk, but I am so glad I took that risk. These were clearly labeled,easy to assemble, and attractive. I have an extensive book collection and the shelves, after a week, show no signs of sagging. And even if these bookcases are not oak, cherry or pine they are not cheap looking and,from a modest budget point of view,worth the price.

This product was purchased to replace an older bookcase that, after 4 years of use, began to show wear and tear signs such as bending bookshelves. However, within a week of assembling and stocking the South Shore bookcase, the shelves began to noticeably sink. My wife and I were exteremly dissapointed. This bookshelf failed in accomplishing its basic function, to hold and display books. Buyers beware.

The unit looks acceptable at first. However, there are 2 major problems:

1. Aesthetic: This is particle-board, not wood. Therefore, over time and normal usage, the edges of the surfacing may start to peel up. Any nicks will reveal the particle board.

2. Functional. Also a result of the material being particle-board instead of wood. The shelves will sag in no time with normal books! These are just not built well.

You get what you pay for. Avoid this poorly manufactured bookshelf.

Very nice color, pretty sturdy and holds a lot of books. Assemble was manageable by one person but would be great if you have help.

There are 2 fixed shelves (the bottom one and the third from bottom) and 3 adjustable shelves. The plastic pieces supporting the adjustable shelves look a bit flimsy but I guess that's standard with this range of bookcases.
