I've been a fan of (Elmer's) Bienfang Watercolor Brushes for at least six years and have purchased approximately as many sets. They come in both 9 and 13 brush packages with one of the brushes being a clear blender brush. I've always bought the 13 brush set because they've always been a better price per marker.

I have a hard time calling these watercolor brushes because I find they dry too fast on watercolor papers, once dry its very hard to get them to blend like actual watercolor tube or pan paints do. The only other problem that I've ever had is leakage. If left laying on their side too long, approximate 5% of them will leak.

For me, the best use that I've found for these brushes is for artistic journaling in Moleskine Journals--the two seem to be made for each other. Since I don't generally try too hard to make every detail stand out in my journals, these are perfect because I don't think that they are really made for super fine details or even for complex blending.

Even though I gave these brushes a four star rating, I would never tell anyone interested in giving them a try, not to. You can get some pretty amazing results even with the small issues that I've described. If they did not leak and if they blended a little better, they would have earned a five star rating from me.
