I use this yardstick to cut .022 chipboard, and it's great for that. The cork backing keeps it from slipping on the board. However, I can't use it on my Chinese Shuen paper because it bends, so is dangerous for paper. If the end struck the paper it would tend to tear it. It also doesn't slide easily enough on paper, but sticks and has to be lifted, which is annoying. Since I use an exacto knife against the edge, stainless steel is preferable to aluminum, which shaves easily. This yardstick made so that it doesn't bend and without the cork would be perfect for cutting my paper. Both versions are valuable. If the reason it bends was to make it lighter, I don't think it's much of an advantage, unless steel is significantly heavier than aluminum. A thinner edge, though, is an advantage when cutting. There's a perfect weight for any length.
