I had a 64 gb memory stick with a lot of data on it. Memory sticks jut out of the side of your computer, suspended in mid-air, plugged into one of your computer's USB slots. I'm very careful, but one day I was not careful enough.

When I wasn't watching, my cat walked across my keyboard, walked onto the USB stick and broke it!!! It practically snapped in half! I have STILL not recovered everything and it will cost a fortune to take it to someone who could do a fornensic recovery. The pins are actually broken inside.

A friend of mine had a USB stick sticking out of his laptop, walked down a corridor, snagged the stick on a doorframe and same result! At least his was only an inexpensive, 4gb stick with almost nothing of importance on it.

It is far, far safer to plug your USB stick into an extender cable and then plug that cable into the computer. Trust me - I wish I had done so beforehand! GET THIS CABLE (or one like it).
