It's a nice unit, especially for the price (when compared to similar Monster units). The switched "energy saving" outlets are a nice feature, but for certain devices, it doesn't work very well. You can work around this by plugging in something that is always on.

As I previously stated, it's a good surge protecting unit. I bought it to work as a power strip because it had so many outlets, but I appreciate the extra features.

It's very important to remember that your computer MUST be plugged into the master plug, or you could run into all sorts of problems.

I bought this surge protector, read about the Master Plug concept, thought "ooh that's a great idea" and I put the surge protector into service. A few months later I had to unplug the computer and take it to another site, and when I returned I wasn't paying attention, and I plugged my monitor into the Master Plug and the computer into a regular outlet. Really a pretty easy mistake as I had to crawl up under my desk into the dark area, and MASTER PLUG just didn't jump out at me under that poor lighting. And, it had been quite some time since I bought the strip and I'd forgotten the whole master concept.

So, I've been having all sorts of problems with external hard drives unmounting during unattended automated tasks, and "hardware failure" message, and I have been going nuts trying to figure out why these drives are "failing." I've been replacing firewire cables, replacing entire drives, and still no solution. Finally today I thought maybe it's the surge protector? When I started unplugging the drives I was reminded of the whole master plug concept. Then I noticed that my monitor was plugged into the Master plug, not the actual computer. So, I switched things.

Hopefully, this will solve the issues I've been having.

It's a reminder if you get a piece of equipment with unusual features you MUST remember how to dot your i's and cross your t's or it will come back to bite you big time. Me, I wish I'd just bought a plain vanilla surge protector as it would have been better in the long run. I don't even want to think about how much productive time I've lost futzing with this thing.

I am very pleased with the design of this surge protector. Before, I have plugged on/of switches between the protector and a device plug I wanted to turn off when not in use. No need any more; this is an efficient energy saver/safety device and I highly recommend it. (I rarely "highly recommend" anything.)

This product would allow you to charge 12 items at one time, but only 6 outlets would be protected against power surges. I would recommend item number 764397 as this product has 7 outlets that are protected against surges. If would like to place an order for this item, please contact us at 1-800-333-3330.

Yes. The amount of protection you need is an amount less than the voltage of a car battery...24 volts. This surge protector is designed to protect against 1000's of volts at a time.

I am wondering what the 4350 joules means. I am not an electrician so I am curious. Also, would is this surge protector better than the ones that come on a battery backup. We are currently using 900v battery backups and spending alot of money on them. Would this item be better for surge protection except for the battery life on a backup.

The answer is no – if you have either of the two “green-power” surges (SKUs 764398 and 764402), there is no way to turn off the Master/Controlled outlet functionality and have all outlets “always on”. If you need a surge with more open outlets that are “always on”, you will have to buy one of the other NON-“green power” Staples-brand models in the lineup, without the Master/Controlled outlet functionality. (The two g.p. SKUs are really intended to be used in an application where the customer would be taking advantage of this feature: such as in a computer setup, where the CPU is plugged into the Master outlet and other devices such as hard drive, monitor, printer, desk lamp, etc. are in the Controlled By Master outlets – so when the computer is powered-off, those other ‘peripheral’ devices get automatically shut off as well.)

This Surge Protector has Coax Protection.

Coax comes in several different types, such as RG-6/U, RG-6/UQ, which have an impedance of 75 ohms and are used for both cable and satellite television.

Other types of coax such as RG-60/U has an impedance of 50 ohms and is used for high definition cable television.

In order to minimize signal loss, all of the components of a coaxial system should have the same impedance. This will reduce internal reflections at connections between components. Since this surge protector will now become a part of this coaxial system, it too must match the impedance of all of the other components.

My question is obviously, what is the impedance of this surge protector?

Check your surge protector for a reset button, if you have one it will be seperate than the power switch. Try that and see if that helps. If not I wouldn't chance it & simply replace the surge protector.

Only guessing - Sounds like the Surge Protector took a hit instead of your equipment. I'd contact Tech Support and see if the system has any sort of reset. If not... maybe you saved yourself a motherboard or hard drive.
