Great home office shredder

If I had to do it all over I would certainly buy this shredder again but I had a few concerns that may be helpful to others. Let me also mention that I previously had the SPL-TMC10A so the transition to this model SPL-TMC12A was fairly smooth.

First I will list the features I like:
1) Great price for a professional series shredder
2) Took advantage of a trade-in for my old shredder ($25 off)
3) Shreds staples, paper clips, and discs too
4) Good dimensions
5) Fairly stylish looking
6) Quiet
7) Fast
8) Secure
9) This model has bag management

My concerns:
1) Hard to insert the casters without a hammer
2) Power cord much shorter than previous model
3) Previous model was more stylish
4) The bin is smaller than previous model

I noticed the bad reviews pertained to overheating. This model is rated for 8 minutes of continuous use so I wouldn't recommend it for heavy duty shredding over a long duration. It's perfect, however, for everyday shredding of junk mail, small documents, etc.

The casters were hard to install. I used a hammer to insert them. Then I noticed there were two types of casters. The casters intended for the front have wheel locks. The manual mentioned NOTHING about setting up the wheels, etc. It only contained basic operating instructions. I managed to pry out the casters with a screwdriver so I could remount the casters with locks in front.

Someone mentioned the buttons don't light up but this model certainly does. Yours might be defective. The directional buttons have a more comfortable, soft touch compared with my previous model but the power button is a little cheap feeling. Also, the throat is a little narrow (8.7") on this model but certainly handles an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. My previous model must have had a 9" throat. The Staples web site was missing some details.

A word to those who shred unopened junk mail: I damaged a shredder in the past due to the mail containing a commemorative souvenir coin!

My money went to waste.

    The shredder powers down after a few minutes with no use. In order to shred again you have to push the power button twice. You have to press the button firmly and make sure the power button lights up. Not the best if you shred frquently during the day.

        So far so good, only had it a month, adequate for what I do in my office, it does fill up quickly but I shred a lot. Didn't want anything with a bigger footprint as my office is small, this holds about 100 sheets of shredding before needing an empty. So far doesn't jam or overheat, I do use the gear oil once a week. It is quiet and shreds things so small that you don't have to worry about privacy

              Turn the shredder upside down. Place the casters in each of the four holes. Hit each one sharply with the palm of your hand. They should snap into place.

              There isn't a specific model that goes with this shredder. Staples only provides replacement bags for the Staples Professional Series shredders. For this one, you can use any shredder bag that fits a 5.8 gallon shredder.

              The Staples 12-sheet Micro-Cut shredder does have a safety feature that would protect young children called the lockout key. The lockout key disables the blade when not in use.

            My shredder did not come with any operating manual of any type..is an OP manual available on line?? Do I need to register the product for warranty coverage? The only items in the box was the shredder and a bag with the key and 4 wheels. I called the 866 # listed on the shredder but gave up after over half an hour on hold/music.
