Can't remove label without damaging cork

On the surface, this seems like a silly thing to comment about, but I wanted a good-quality ruler to use for a long time, but I couldn't get the label off of this one without banging up the cork backing. My brand-new ruler is a mess to look at. It still functions, but it looks like junk. Couldn't you put the label on the front, where it would peel off the metal without leaving a mess?

I have to do a lot of manual cutting so the ruler works great for measuring and as a guide for cutting except the sticker onthe cork damaged it and was never able to get it off. I should be put on the front of the ruler for easier removal.
