First off, I visited one of my local Staples stores to look at this shredder. They did not have it on display even though the clerk told me the one displayed was the shredder I was looking for (it was actually the old model which is being discontinued). I showed him the picture and he said that sometimes the pictures aren't exactly what they look like--I thought to mysel this guy doesn't know what he is talking about. I saw the boxes up on the high shelves and told him, that they look like the picture I brought from Staples website. Guess what? It was the shredder; good thing I didn't listen to that clerk!

Now on to this shredder: Was excited to get this brand new model shredder because it was on sale and it has a door on it which reveals a separate shredder basket inside, which was just like my older Staples brand shredder. I always use plastic shredder bags and on the old shredder, the plastic bag was hidden once you closed the door. But on this shredder, you can see and feel the bag with the door closed--don't necessarily like that. This shredder is definately louder than the older one--you would think for the price of this shredder, that it would be quieter but it isn't! Also for the price, I think the Micro Cut would be smaller in size. This shredder has clean looking lines and is appealing to the eye. Time will tell how this one stands up to almost daily home use. (My old one still works.) I think I would still recommend a buy on this one.

We've had this shredder for a little over a year. We don't overuse it - but it does get used on a daily basis - for single sheets of paper mostly. We are a small business.

First, the bin is a bit small. We sometimes have to empty it twice a week. It's a mess to empty - I tried using the liners for the bin - but it doesn't make any difference - the stuff goes everywhere. I think this is probably just par for the shredder course - no matter what kind or size shredder you have.

I do prefer the micro-shred to either cross-cut or strip shredding - that's a big upside for me.

The auto-feed detector broke after a little over a year. That means we have to stand there for every sheet of paper and push the button to start the shredder - and then babysit while it shreds. No. I'm not doing that.

We had purchased a one-year extended warranty - but - lo and behold - the shredder broke after the warranty expired! So, now I just have to decide whether to fix this one - 'cause it shreds fine - or bite the bullet and buy another shredder that has an auto-feed that works. If I do, it WON'T be a STAPLES shredder - you can bet on that.

      Took back the Fellowes 99Ci purchased from Costco and bought this Staples one. I wanted to stick with a name brand, but this turned out to be an unexpected pleasure. The Fellowes machine was horrible. Kept having to open the drawer and smash down the shreds. The Staples brand - it micro shreds and that's never an issue. Not quite as fast, but actually does a MUCH BETTER job. Buy it - great machine for my CPA office!

      My previous shredder that I purchased for 50 dollars finally died after 5 years of use. I needed a shredder that had as good if not better cross-cuts as well as being quieter and more heavy duty. By the product description, this shredder seemed to fit what I needed. It is quiet and it does shred more pages at a pass in smaller cuts. However, it overheats in about two minutes making it almost impossible to bulk shred anything. It can take hours to get through a stack of documents. Additionally, the bin is small so between emptying the bin and waiting for the unit to cool down, it's almost more trouble than it's worth. Certainly would have expected a much better product at this price point.

        This is my second review; My first was ecstatic. For the first few days the on button worked with two pushes very regularly. Now it sometimes takes 3 or four. I hope this is not a sign of a continuing trend. Other than that, and hating having to get on my knees under a desk after each use (!) it is fine. So I am wondering, why do I have to unplug it after each use? Is it dangerous not to? Does it eat extra electricity? PLease please let purchasers know what this is about.

              Yes, item 356071 does state in the manual not to use paper clips or any other hard materials. Yes, it would be a good idea to remove the flaps of the envelopes to avoid paper jams. Thank you for the information and I will send a message to update the online page.

              It is not recommended to feed paperclips into the shredder, however an occasional paperclip going through should not cause damage. You can shred envelopes, but remove the back flap that contains adhesive because when this heats up it can cause paper to stick to the blades.

            I too, would like to know about the shredder bags for this particular shredder. You have a place on the bottom that will lock down the box of bags but no one seems to know what brand or box type will fit in here. This is bad when you bring a product out that all of the features for it are not explained.
            Also, why can't this product be manufactured here in the U.S.A. instead of China? Don't we have qualified company's here that could build this same product?
