Many users have noted that the machine does not seem to turn on with one or two pushes of the "On" button. According to the product support person I called, the problem is related to how I place the shredder bags into the bin: there is a protruding plastic tab on the removable bin, which allows the machine to run when the removable bin is inserted properly: I understand that the tab is either at back left or front right of the removable bin, depending on whether you have the newer or older version of this model. The plastic tab sticks up above the rim of the removable bin about 1/2 inch - and the shredder bag must wrap over that plastic tab very tightly to allow the machine to operate. I used binder clips on either side of the plastic tab to hold the bag down tightly and this seems to work. Foolish of the makers to not include this crucial info in the instruction guide.

I bought the highest quality shredder available and have a low quality product. The rating in the store said it would shred for 20+ minutes but this one shuts off in less that 5 minutes of shredding. It will not restart for 5-10 minutes until it apparently cools down. It is very slow in shredding although it was rated as one of the fastest shredders. It quickly jams, quickly overheats, is much louder than any shredder we have had in this office. It was rated as the quietest, fastest, and most durable. I find it to be a bad bad choice that for which we paid way too much money.

I was excited to have a shredder that took bags, but the bag management casing in the bottom of shredder didn't hold the shredder bags sold by Staples, so I ignore the built-in shape in the bottom and put bags in 1 at a time. The shredder shows full when the bag is really 1/3 full, but that's just that the bags we found at Staples are apparently a different size. Bags make emptying shredder SO much neater... Love the large amount it shreds, and that it is quieter than I'd expect for a pretty large shredder. Also attractive to look at (for a shredder).

I have to say, I was pretty hesitant with purchasing this shredder at first, because of the pretty penny that it was. But, in the end, it was totally worth it! Fast, reliable, convenient sleep mode and easy disposal. I have to admit I got a little carried away when I was testing it out. I tried out old scratched CDs, stacks of paper, folders.. almost anything you can think of, this shredder happily shreds it away for you. Old pictures of your ex? Shredded! And don't worry.. if you decide at the last minute you actually did like the picture of you with your ex, you can always rewind your picture back. Losing what was already shredded of course. I'm very pleased with the product. I promise you will be too :)

My elderly mother in law is in a retirement home and all her mail is sent to my home. In addition to the mail my family gets everyday along with hers, there is alot of mail that needs to be shredded. The Staples shredder could not have been a better idea in order to take care of the now masssive amounts of mail we are getting everyday. I pay my son 10 cents per piece of junk mail that he shreddes. It adds up very quickly and he loves doing it.
