I have been using various DVD + RW media and DVD + R media in standalone DVD Recorders since 2005. This is the first time I am using the Staples DVD+RW media, though I have been using Staples CDRW media a lot on my computer systems for Data and CD Audio.
I rarely rewrite the DVD + RW media. The main advantage of the DVD + RW media is it allows the DVD Top menu to be written after recording each track. It also alows chapter markers to be automatically written on each track. My current DVD Recorder automatically writes a Chapter marker every eight minutes.
Though my current Recorder supports all of the DVD Media types, I think it is much better to stay with the DVD + R/RW media as the Plus media offers greater functions and improvements over the Dash media.

I have tried these discs with several programs, and had no consistent luck with any. The main problem is that 80% of the time they are not recognized by the drive. Often when they are, they are shown to have no data on the disc, or no space left. As for the rewritable part, that only works if you can get them recognized to enable a rewrite.
I thought a product with the Staples name on it would be much more reliable.
I wouldn't recommend these discs to my enemies.

        Comments about Staples® 25/Pack 4.7GB DVD+RW, Spindle:

I do a lot of recording so I especially love this product. It can be reused many times so it provides wonderful value for my dollar and I have found that the Staples brand stands up to the much more expensive brands for durability, affordability, etc. I am still using discs I purchased several years ago. As long as they are not dropped or mishandled it seems they will last indefinitely. The stacking sleeves they come in are also very good for long term storage and I have recommended this product to friends.

which dvd discs do I use to copy my video's from my canon camcorder with just a harddrive, no disc or memory card used. Is it a dvd +r, dvd -r, dvd +rw, or dvd -rw? Please help!!!!

                A:

It does not matter what type of DVD you use to copy your video files. The difference between "+r" and "-r" is simple formatting that no longer matters in this day and age. If you would like a rewritable disc choose one with a "rw" ending. If you would like to place an order, please call us at 1-800-333-3330. You also have the option to order online.

DVD+RW is a re-recordable format similar to CD-RW. The data on a DVD+RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times without damaging the medium. DVD-RW is a re-recordable format similar to CD-RW or DVD+RW. The data on a DVD-RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times without damaging the medium. DVDs created by a -R/-RW device can be read by most commercial DVD-ROM players.

The DVD-R DVD+R difference can easily be summarized by the following:
The DVD-R/RW standard was developed by Pioneer, and is used primarily by Apple and Pioneer. These “minus“ discs can only be written to in one layer on the discs surface. In addition, this format is supported by the DVD forum, but is in no way an industry standard. DVD-R/RW discs are cheaper than the “plus” format.
The DVD+R/RW format is supported by Philips, Dell, Sony, HP, and Microsoft. These discs can be written to in multiple layers, giving them slightly better and more disc storage than the “minus“ format. Because of this additional capacity, they are slightly more expensive than “minus“ discs.

yes U can use DVD-RWs to store JPEG photos and view them on a DVD player, BUT be aware if you use DVD-RWs formatted in a DVD player it cannot go back and be used in a puter, AND DVD recorders format DVDs in a unique format that makes them unplayable randomly in anything so bottom line ALWAYS make a backup of ANY DVD that you plan on using in a DVD player, The recodrer WILL eat the DVD PERIOD at some point in the future. My wife ruins at least one DVD(+)RW a week using them in her DVD recorder
