Worked only short time, downloaded bad

If this switch had only done what it was supposed to, it would have been ideal for what I need: to connect two computers to one printer. However, it only worked for 2 ...Read complete review

If this switch had only done what it was supposed to, it would have been ideal for what I need: to connect two computers to one printer. However, it only worked for 2 days then it stopped connecting for one computer. The next day, it stopped connecting for the other computer. The usage was not constant; it was just for one project. I'd hoped to do more but had to disconnect it from my main computer in order to use the printer. When can get to Staples next, I will return the switch.

        Windows XP Professional on one computer and Windows 7 Professional on the other and one new HP 4 in 1 printer. Worked of less than two months. A real piece of junk not worthy of shelf space at Staples.

            Small item but solved a big problem. Only had one computer and printer until now. No room for a complete duplicate setup so the switch allowed my wife and I to share the same printer. It is simple to use, doesn't use ink, doesn't use paper, doesn't need external power and it is small. What more can I say? By the way; we do have a backup printer in the closet.

              I bought this so I could use my desktop and laptop with the same printer. It's important that you follow instructions in the package. Once installed, I have had no problems. I love not having to constantly be disconnecting and reconnecting printer cables.

                Trying to connect a PC and a Mac? Software appears to be only for Windows PC which works fine, Mac will not accept software even though Staples salesman said it would. instruction sheet indicated OS 10.0 will work. Help

                  The packaging and user guide notes this is compatible for both, and got it to work with a printer after a bit of troubleshooting... here was the final setup:

                  Switch Port 1: Mac Input
                  Switch Port 2: PC Input

                  The included CD software was installed on both the Mac and PC (double-click the .dmg program to install on Mac). The application is merely called "18799".

                  Shut down computers, turned on printer, restarted computers

                  To switch on PC, right-click the switch icon in the task bar then select "Switch" (icon turns from yellow to green to indicate it's connected).

                  *** To switch on Mac, use keystroke Ctrl + F11, there doesn't seem to be any other way - it's not built into the menu of the application. The icon turns from yellow to green (connected)... and on the PC the icon then turns from green to yellow (disconnected).

                  Am not having any trouble switching back and forth, although note both computers in my office are always on at the same time (if that matters).

                I have a 2x1 usb peripheral switch connected to a dell computer with windows 7 and a dell computer with winows xp pro. The computer with windows 7 prints but the computer with windows xp does not recognize the device and will not print. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

                I have a MACOS and installed the software as per disc. A green prompt appears for the computer accessing the printer and a red prompt appears for the other computer. To change to the other computer for printing purposes an F key prompt is required. I have forgotten the F prompt needed. Does anyone know what prompt is needed to switch back and forth?

                  A:

                  Simply push the selection button to toggle between computers.
                  F11 In Internet Explorer this key will allow you to toggle between full screen viewing mode and normal viewing mode.
                  F12 usually located at the upper right hand corner of your keyboard next to the Scroll Lock and Pause/Break keys. Often abbreviated PrtScr, the Print Screen key is a useful key supported on most PCs. In DOS, pressing the Print Screen key causes the computer to send whatever images and text are currently on the display screen to the printer. Some graphics programs and Windows, use the Print Screen key to obtain Screen Captures.

The link I saw in another question gave me a driver, but it doesn't seem to install properly. I start installing the driver and a page comes up showing the device and then disappears.                 One computer has XP and it works fine. The other computer has windows 7 with a os 64 bit system. With both plug in only XP works. If i switch leads 7 works and XP port does not. It says printer offline each time. Only one port is lit up and it is always the same port.
