Incredible Bang for the Buck

I am on my second one of these machines over the past couple of years. Got the first one replaced without hassle using the replacement plan. Current machine has stopped working on AUTO and I don't think it would really take 25 sheets at a time but it grinds through a LOT of documents without jamming. My current version of this machine is the 25-sheet model. I use it to shred in-house documents and documents on behalf of my clients (We do freelance personal assistant work). It is relatively quiet and fast. Added bonus is that the cats LOVE to sit in the bag of emptied shred :).

Cheap construction

The shredder unit looks like a workhorse, but the plastic chassis that supports the shredder unit is so thin and flimsy that it buckles under it's own weight. This causes the bin to not fully seat and close the safety switch. The end result is that you have to use a hand or knee to push the bin in so that the safety switch closes and the unit will then operate. Why Staples skimped on a little more plastic to make the base strong enough bewilders me. I returned it.

I've had the shredder all of maybe a week (used maybe 3 times) and it has stopped shredding!! The bin light (open) is the only light that is working. It has completely stopped shredding!! It needs to be replaced or refunded as soon as possible.

Shredded paper packs in so tighly that it "explodes" when you pull out the bin. Have to empty frequently to prevent this.

I have a law office and shred everything that gets thrown out. Sometimes we shred old files and we needed a machine that handles 30 sheets at a time and stays cool enough that it doesn't easily overheat and need a cooling down time out. This replaces the same model that lasted about 2 years and then died. It is not really repairable. It either works or not. While the last one worked, it was great - great enough to get another same model. It is a simple straight line shredder, but handles everything we throw at it. Let's hope that this one lasts longer than the last one. Size is good, attractive looking, built in trash can and relatively quiet (quieter than the last one).

This shredder can handle a lot of shredding. We shredded eight paper boxes (from a case of paper) of documents the first week, with no jamming or problems. It is quiet and takes about thirty sheets of paper at a time. The only complaint or draw-back would be because it is a strip-cut shredder, it fills the bin quickly and needs to be emptied too often. When emptying the bin, the fine particles of paper make it a dusty mess. You would have to empty it before it is full (and that does not take many sheets) to eliminate the dust.

Q:
The "tab" that's inside the unit that fits into a "slot" of some sort has broken off. I believe it tells the unit that the door is closed and not still open. Since the "tab" is broken off, the machine thinks the door is still open. Is there a way to order a replacement part that includes this tab. It seems like it is connected by 2 screws. Without a replacement part, this shredder can no longer function. It worked great for a year.

  This shredder has an 8.14 gallon capacity wastebasket. You need to purchase special bags. You'll need oil to lube the unit and this is a good match for your stated needs, since it's a professional grade shredder.

  A strip cut shredder cuts the paper in strips. This shredder cuts the paper in 1/4" strips. A cross cut shredder cuts the paper vertically and horizontally making smaller pieces. The pieces vary by model and can rage from 1/32” x 3/16” or 5/32″ x 1-1/8″.
