I have this product for both my home and office. I do find that it creates a tremendous amount of versatily, plus it does preserve the USB ports on my computers.At times it does seem as if there is a drag, but that could be due more to the computer as opposed to the unit. I do find it extremely functional and it provides an immediate source of port connectivity.Be sure to plug in the unit to its own power source. [...] From the information I received, plugging in the unit to its own source will reduce the chance of "burning" out the USB port that you would connect the unit to.

When attached to a laptop that sometimes leaves the desk - and with printers hooked to the USB port, well, the printer just do not come back online when all is reconnected. I preferr to have my printers in the laptop USB ports and the other items like mouse and MAgicJack hooked at the USB hub

I purchased this product because I was running out of USB ports. I couldn't believe how small it is and I keep knocking it off my table. The good thing is when I plugged this into the back of my pc it began to download drivers. Then all of a sudden my pc began downloading an update to my HP printer. Which I was thrilled about because ever since I had installed the HP printer software update, the printer no longer would print from the keys. Additionally, the HP software kept giving me a error message saying the software didn't install properly. I had been dealing with this problem for nearly two months. I was at my wits end because HP's support & forum didn't have any answers. I have no idea why hooking up a USB hub solved this problem but I am glad it did.

It is a simple hub, with a power supply.
I wanted to connect several external drives to a desktop computer, and having a powered hub probably was necessary. I bought a power strip with separate switches, and I can turn on one at a time or several at a time without plugging and unplugging cables all the time. The USB port on the top is now covered with a small post-it note to keep out dust. I have seen little plugs to stick in unused USB ports and I may get some in the future. Perhaps the logic behind that port on the top could be explained. I might find a use for it someday.

My Lenovo Ideabook didn't have enough power at the usb port to run an external dvd/cd player. Loading software without using cd's was tedious. The additional usb ports now allows the use of a usb mouse at the same time as the external usb drive. This saved me from have to pay to return the external drive!
