We use these for recording TV programs on our DVD recorder for playback later..like a DVR. We use the 4 hour mode and play it back on a 42" HD tv. It works great. We only had one disc fail after many recordings... and then we were still able to see what we recorded before we tossed it. Why pay the big bucks for a DVR unit and another monthly fee when you can use Staples DVD-RW's? For around 10$ we've gotten weeks of our favorite TV shows recorded over and over again...and they are STILL going strong.

I wanted to use the rewritable discs to record tv shows and then play them on whatever dvd player (or computer) as desired, perhaps at a friend's house or on a computer. The disc is not universally recognized by all dvd playing machines, thus severely limiting the purpose for which it was purchased. It was not an issue that occurred to me when buying the disc, so frankly I do not know if that point is made by the discs' packaging.

I've only used one of the five discs and am counting on Staples' reputation for good products that they will all work and last. It's only the 2nd 5-pack that I purchased. The 1st one was Memorex - - - 4 of them stopped working within a month and the 5th one died after 3 months. I anticipate better luck with Staples discs. It's too soon to know if I would recommend them. I could better respond after a few months.

These discs are an excellent buy! I started using the rewritable discs as i made a few errors when i burned non rewritable and the discs were junk. Now if i make a mistake i can erase and use the disc again. Excellent quality when i burn movies from my hard drive.
