We use these for recording TV programs on our DVD recorder for playback later..like a DVR. We use the 4 hour mode and play it back on a 42" HD tv. It works great. We only had one disc fail after many recordings... and then we were still able to see what we recorded before we tossed it. Why pay the big bucks for a DVR unit and another monthly fee when you can use Staples DVD-RW's? For around 10$ we've gotten weeks of our favorite TV shows recorded over and over again...and they are STILL going strong.

I wanted to use the rewritable discs to record tv shows and then play them on whatever dvd player (or computer) as desired, perhaps at a friend's house or on a computer. The disc is not universally recognized by all dvd playing machines, thus severely limiting the purpose for which it was purchased. It was not an issue that occurred to me when buying the disc, so frankly I do not know if that point is made by the discs' packaging.

  Yes you can, but keep in mind that this disk is re-writeable, meaning, the photo's can be erased and replaced with other data. To keep a photo disk permanent, try item 560845.

This is Blue Ray. Can they be written from a Windows Vista operating system? Also can they be viewed on a regular DVD player as well as Blue Ray? My main purpose is storing photos.

  These are DVD-RW disks not Blue ray. Blue ray media can only be viewed on a blue ray drive.
