I needed to protect several systems from power surges that hit our area. The power surges have "burned out" the timing system for the irrigation system on two occasions--never thought I'd need a surge protector for it! Additionally, our recently purchased treadmill advised using a surge protector--to maintain the various computer settings/programs that it has. I always thought only desk top computer equipment needed surge protectors---I was wrong.

There were many options in various price ranges--this model provided the best value for my needs.

Decent Surge Protector, Indecent Price!

The surge protector is a well-made decent product, then I stopped by another store and was totally let down as the same surge protector was 50% lower in price and not on sale.

Comments about Staples® 6-Outlet 709 Joule Surge Protector:

I recently purchased the Staples® 6-Outlet 709 Joule Surge Protector by Staples so I could use the outlet behind my refrigerator as a power source for my laptop when I want to watch DVDs on my TV which is on the other side of the wall. The Staples® 6-Outlet 709 Joule Surge Protector by Staples is perfect because it had just the right length cord to plug in the laptop without the cord running all over the kitchen and breakfast bar and heavy-duty enough that I don't worry about running some pretty important devices on the same power source. The design is clean, the cord length is just right and I have confidence in the quality and functionality of the product.

        • Q:

we were recently inspected by the fire marshall, and we were told that we couldn't use this power strip because it is not resettable. other power strips are marked with reset/off but i do not see that marking on this particular product. I see the UL listing, but no reset info.
Do we have to abandon the 50 of these that we purchased several years ago?
          Thanks!
Asked on 2/13/2013 by Carl from IT professional

          1 answer

          • A:

You are correct, the product does not reset or have an on/off switch. You need to check the specific code that the fire marshal referenced. It makes a difference if you are in a government, hospital, commercial or private home type setting. Codes can vary by location or agency. The UL product certification is sufficient for private home use.

What are the dimensions of the power strip?
I have a very small space to fit this in.

The measurements of this power strip are 2 1/4" x 11 1/2" If you need a smaller strip get one with only four outlets.

I need a plug that is not a "right angle" plug because of the type of conference room table we have. If this has a right angle plug please let me know what options I have.

3-pronged cords don't seem to fit into this surge protector for me. It fits into the wall perfectly, and two pronged cords work fine, but anything with the lower 3rd prong cannot fit into the strip. I can see something gold blocking the prong's ability to go in. Any ideas?

It means you can plug in one item with an oversized plug, like the chargers that have a "block" on the end. Hope that helps! Some surge protectors are designed with multiple block outlets, so what you need depends on what will be plugged in.
