I use it for the TV, power antenna (I don't have cable), digital converter box, and VCR. The "Master" socket is great because when I turn off the TV, all the other things go off, too. And then I unplug it - I'm really "green-friendly" - it's easy to plug / unplug.

Nice, when it actually works

Put this between UPS and new computer. I thought it would be nice that the printer, modem, monitor and router would get powered off when I shutdown the computer for the night.

Put this between UPS and new computer. I thought it would be nice that the printer, modem, monitor and router would get powered off when I shutdown the computer for the night.

Sometimes it works like a charm. Other times I have to manually turn off the periphials. I always have to wait to see it I have to do the latter, which kinda defeates the purpose.

There wasn't enough room to plug the router into it, so that is on the UPS only.

Also had a hard drive failure and I don't know if the strip had anything to do with that. I've never had a drive go like that.

I bought this power strip because of the energy saving ECO feature. The strip is triggered on and off with my laptop. My printer and speakers will fully shut down all power to their transformers when my laptop goes into standby mode.

One night I couldn't sleep and so wandered out into our living room in the dark. It struck me just how many little red lights were on the entertainment center when everything was supposedly "off." I bought this surge protector, made the TV the master and plugged the other things into the other slots... poof! Kills the vampire electricity drain. Only con is a lack of space for things with power converters, but I won't dock it a star because it's pictured very clearly and what I was expecting to have to deal with.

What does it mean 1 master, 4 energy saving, 2 surge only. does that mean only 2 plugs have the surge protection? Do all plugs provide the same power? Does the Master do anything different?

  When the master is shut off this will automatically shut off on up to 4 peripheral devices (energy saving ports) when the primary device is turned off or goes into stand-by mode. The 2 Surge only are always live.

  Do your remember to turn on the devices each time? When you turn the master device off, all the linked devices turn off because they lose power - some devices shut down completely so that you have to turn them on after you turn on the master device.

  This surge protector is designed to conserve energy when devices are not in use. To do this whenever the device plugged into the "Master" outlet is shut off, or goes into standby mode, power is cut off to the "Controlled by Master" outlets. One way to use it would be to have a TV plugged into the "Master" outlet and a gaming console, DVD player, and audio receiver plugged into the "Controlled by Master" outlets. When the TV is shut off, power to the other devices is cut to conserve power. Things that need to be on at all times, like a DVR, can be plugged into the "Always On" outlets.
