Answer this question 3 answers A: You do have to plug it in to an outlet. I'm looking at one right now. It would need it to power all the devices running from the hub. Especially external drives or printers. Answered on 11/5/2010 by crystal from Soddy Daisy A: Yes you do. It is not self-contained. The idea is that you can use it as an external power source to charge things that you would charge using a usb connection, ie. cell-phone, mp3 players etc.without drawing down the power from the computer connection and thus sacrificing performance. Q: My results are hit and/or miss using this item. Sometimes when I plug in externally powered items (printer, hard drive, video camera), other products become devices that Windows does not recognize. When this happens, the only way to have them recognized again is to restart the computer. Once I turn on/connect either the printer, hard drive, or video camera, I have to repeat this. This shouldn't be occurring, correct? My other USB hub (4 ports) never did this. I needed additional ports for my laptop. Asked on 5/29/2010 by Rob Know the answer?
