This shredder is larger than my previous one, but it has noticeably quieter operation. Overall, I am very pleased with this product.

So-So Shredder

Description sounds like quite a fair size of bin capacity--not. The bin full light comes on very soon because the shredded paper comes out in a cone. I lifted the lid, redistributed the shreds & then I had to unplug & plug back in before the power light would come on. That wouldn't even work once the bin was a little over half full; had to empty the bin & start again. Don't plan on shredding a large amount at one time; shredder quit working fairly soon & has to rest for 70 minutes before starting up again. I replaced a previous Staples shredder that finally bit the dust with this one because of the supposedly longer run time. I have not found this to be the case. My previous one was cheaper, had more sheet capacity; wish I had bought one like it again. Unlike my previous one which had a handle to lift off the top to empty & handles to assist in moving it around, this shredder has neither one. The top is quite heavy & harder to remove for emptying. To move it from place to place, you have to scoot it. The only plus I've found is that this shredder is a lot quieter than my old one.

Initially I was very pleased. Then after 14 months, it wouldn't shut off in the "auto" position, even when the job was done. It would also spontaneously start up, even with the lockout key in place. I was away for 2 days and came back to find the machine running, hot, and paper in the bin. Fortunately, nothing ignited. I contacted Staples corporate office (don't even bother with "Customer Service") and they agreed to swap out the item for the identical one. I was pleased, and the new one arrived the next day. I handed in the old one. Opened the box and found they'd sent me the wrong one -- a desktop mailmate, with a very small bin. I've been trying to get them to correct the error and have had no luck. They can't even find the one I handed back in, to prove they sent me the wrong one. No "Easy" button here. I'm about to contact my state Attorney General's office. Beware of staples!

I'm interested in getting a shredder that has the following: auto-on, continuous on,stop, and reverse. I can't quite tell from the picture if the continuous on is available. It looks like there are only 3 modes. Does anyone know offhand which models offer the continuous on? I'm having a hard time finding one in the $80 - $100 range.
