If you find it on sale, buy it! My local Staples had it two weeks ago for fifty bucks off retail. Reading the online reviews, I figured the seat cushion would be toast in a hurry. I weigh about 220 lbs, and the seat cushion was much less supportive within days after I bought it. I picked up a memory foam pillow for thirty bucks, and it's worked great as an additional cushion.

I have two herniated discs and telecommute 20-30 hours per week, so I needed a good chair for my home office. The local store had a floor model of a much more expensive chair on sale in my price range, but, as much as I wanted to like it, I didn't. Based on the complaints here about the seat cushion, I had all but written this chair off as a possibility, but it was the most comfortable chair in the store. I intentionally went shopping with a sore back to see which one gave me the most support.

Using the adjustable height and tilt for the seat-back, I can soothe almost any ache that develops.

Solid frame construction, highly adjustable, meets ANSI-BIFMA standards, and supportive of my ailing back. If Staples would spend another couple of dollars on resilient seat cushioning, they'd have an amazing chair, one for which this customer would be willing to pay about double what he did.

This chair is used by 3 family members, and to be fair, sees about 8 hours of use per day. I have owned 4 of these chairs over a 5 year period. On each and every chair, the armrest give out, crack and fall apart. I am sitting in a chair, now less than 3 months old, and the Left armrest is cracked and falling off. Other chairs have had one or both armrest involved. I'm tired of assembling new chirs, especially this frequently. [...] I really like the chi, and otherwise it is great. Interesting how some have trouble and others don't withthe armrests. Maybe they are just bad in the Pacific N.W. where I live. At any rate, buiy the service contract, it is cheaper than a new chair. I am tired of returning them and assembly, not to mention waste and cost of fuel.

The model number on line is different 21517D - are these the same chair?

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

              Hi Barbara,
Yes, it is the same chair. This model number is an updated model number than the number on the chair you seen in store. Model 11745 is likely a little older and very minor changes have been made. For example, changes to the packaging or warranty. It appears the newer model has a broader height range as well.

          • Q:

What is the height range of the arm rests in relation to the floor? Meaning at the lowest seat setting and lowest arm rest setting how high off the floor are the tops of the arm rest? And what is the highest the tops of the arm rests go from the floor?

I need to make sure the arm rests fit underneath my desk so I can scoot the chair under my desk.

              A:

The seat to floor, at its lowest setting is 18-7/8th"H. Even though the arms are adjustable in height, there is no indication of settings.

My chair was delivered today already assembled and the seat tension when I lean back isn't nearly as tight as when I've used this model chair in the past. The whole point of this chair is good back tension. When I twist the tension tightener at the bottom of the chair, i go as far as i can and the tension is still not what it should be. Any suggestions? what am I doing wrong?
Asked on 8/11/2011 by Jen from Chicago,IL

            1 answer

            • A:

Just a guess from a fellow customer: the directions for this chair indicate the tilt tension adjustment operates _backward_ from what many people will expect. To decrease tension, turn it CLOCKWISE; to increase tension, turn it COUNTERCLOCKWISE. My guess is you've inadvertently turned the knob to the lowest tilt tension rather than the highest.
