It works fairly well. It could be bigger with a larger area of illumination and, if so, would warrant a higher price. I like the goose neck design. The flap that covers the magnifying glass is weakly attached and that should be corrected. Mine broke soon after purchase. I warned my cousin about it when I sent him one and he said that he noticed how it would flop away from the lamp when the lamp was adjusted at a higher angle. The magnification is first rate for reading really small print. I like this lamp a lot, especially since my desk is crowded and clipping this onto an edge saves space. In addition the goose neck is great for turning the lamp to illuminate different areas, like the file cabinet adjacent to my desk. Just wish it had more illumination.

I make jewelry and the magnification is great, but the ability of the lamp itself, is not so good. No matter how tight I make the nut that is supposed to hold the lamp upright, the neck still bends down, because the lamp head is to heavy for the base. I think more metal parts, is the answer. The plastic tends to stretch, especially with the heat of the lamp.

    Went to Staples Store in Salisbury Md and was told you can't get a replacement bulb by a store employee that certainly didn't care about me as a customer by his attitude.

      I used the lamp for 6 months and the bulb burned out. I went back to Staples to get a replacement bulb and they did not have one. I looked for a replacement bulb on this site and coult not find one.

      I use for up close work on cross stitch projects. So far haven't found anything I like better. I like this one because I can take it with me. Only problem is that this is the second one to break where the clip joins the neck of the lamp. The price is right too, have looked at similar ones and they are almost twice as much but same construction.

        The bulb burned out in about 6 months and Staples does not carry a replacement. Have been searching on-line and nobody seems to carry them. Beware if you THINK you found one on-line: you'll probably find one with a 5.4" outside diameter, but this bulb has a 4.75" outside diameter. The lack of light significantly reduces the usefulness of this magnifyer.

        Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
