This lamp replaces a decorator halogen lamp that took up 3 times the space. My halogen lamp drew 157 watts and was very hot. This lamp sits on my desk and has a softer light drawing 11 watts with the 13 Watt, 120 Volt GE Warm White Spiral CFL Bulb (Energy Star Approved). I enjoyed it so much that my wife has one on her desk and many of my friends bought them for their desks. Some bought the clip on version. All raved about their efficiency and simplicity.

This lamp is for my computer desk. I agree with other reviewer(s) who said the base is too lightweight. I added a 5-lb. round chunk of plumber's lead & it's still a bit light because the neck is so stiff. A good non-skid substance on the bottom of the base would help, too.

I could also use a bit more length in the neck (3" would probably do it) to make the lamp a bit more versatile. I don't like a bright desk lamp, but I do like a wide swath of light. With its short little neck, this is more like a spotlight.

The round "dome" that covers the on/off switch fell off with the first usage. This is my 3rd lamp of this style (the other 2 were clamp-ons) & that seems to be par for the course. You can glue them on or you can discard them, but they don't manufacture them to stay on for long.

A 40-watt-equivalent CFL bulb in this lamp works fine. Plenty of clear light & the metal shade gets no more than lukewarm to the touch. Use less electricity & produce less heat in a warm summer office.

    It is very difficult to scrapbook in a dark room. With this handy device, that problem is solved! I can easily redirect the light by adjusting the lamp. There are no confusing remote controls to master, and no software to load. Just turn it on when you want light, and turn it off when you are finished.
