I am happy with this so far because the vertical top hole design doesn't take up a lot of room on my desk compared to the front hole electric sharpeners, and it's stylish and modern looking, and I like that it had a choice of colors other than black (I got a bluish silvery one - would have liked pink or purple). It also empties easily and neatly. It comes with an AC cord so it's not going to consume batteries. The packaging was 100% recyclable. And it has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I bought it for my grade schooler to be able to sharpen pencils. It sharpens VERY well - almost dangerously so. But we have had one problem so far in that it jams/locks up on half the pencils we sharpen. I don't know if it's the type of pencil (we have only been sharpening Crayola colored pencils thus far), or if it will do that all the time. The only way to unjam it to get the pencil out is to unplug it, and then plug it back in. I am concerned about the long term effect of this jamming, so we'll see. It has the satisfaction guarantee as I mentioned above, so I am trying not to worry.

Awful

I am a middle school English teacher, so needless to say I need a good, sturdy pencil sharpener for consistent daytime use at school. I had an older electric sharpener that was getting quite loud, so I traveled to Staples to purchase a new one. The first day or so was fantastic. And then the jams started.
The sharpener would stop mid-sharpen, and only begin again when tapped against the counter or the heel of the hand in order to shake loose the shavings inside. These jams became more frequent, and then finally, about one week after purchasing, it quit entirely. I am entirely displeased with this product.

The sharpener did not work right..[$] and it only sharpened half the point -- the other half retained a layer of wood around it! I replaced it today with an Xacto and had to cough up another $3 for it.

We sharpened 12 pencils and one tip jammed down in the sharpener and it will no longer work. No way to clear it out. Very disappointed with this product.
