Why there are so many expensive and ugly reading lamps, I do not know. But this one has a great price, AND a great design. The brushed steel, the shape of the shade and goose neck really make this one of the better reading lamps, dispersing light where it needs to go, and illuminating a broader area than you would think.

I'm going to get another one of these and put it on the side table next to my living room sofa. It's good looking enough to go there, and I'd be hard pressed to find a traditional decorative lamp with a lampshade that gives as good reading light. I briefly considered one of those awful floor lamps with the 5 or 6 gooseneck lamps coming out of the main trunk, but those are just too butt hideous. Go with this one. Yes, short cord, but...it's easy to remedy, if you need to.

The covering doesn't cover the bulb enough. Leaves the bulb too exposed (this is not an aesthetic complaint; it's an incoveniece complaint because it leaves the light too bright).

The neck that bends to position in the needed position I like best and the look is very fitting to any room.

This lamp is priced right. The bulb stays out of sight. You can use a small flourescent bulb, also. Brushed silver fits decor on most desks. The base may be a bit too large, but its weight is perfect for a gooseneck to prevent tipping over. On/off swtch is easy to use, too!

As the title says, its a lamp and it came with a CFL bulb, which is the only reason I gave it 4 vs 3 stars.
Styling is nice, nothing special.
Only complaint (if you can call it that) is that it sits rather low. Because of this the area of illumination is limited and I have a hard time writing directly underneath it.
On the pro side, because of this I can't see the bulb directly and the associated glare.
I use it in my home office next to the computer, where it is the perfect size to read a 8x11 sheet of paper while typing.
So its a lamp, aaannnndddd it came with a bulb.
