Great Price - for a Great Job

I educate my son at home, and I was REALLY tired of sharpening pencil after pencil manually with a small hand-sharpener.After looking around a bit, I came upon this sharpener and figured I would give it a try since I thought the price was right.I must confess, I was a little concerned that it might not be very good quality (since it was not a "name brand".) [...]Well, I have had this sharpener for a couple of months now and use it almost daily and I am quite pleased with it's performance. Even my young son is able to use it with no problems. His only complaint is that it is loud. (He's right - it is. BUT, it does a good job sharpening pencils evenly and that is all I really wanted to begin with. I can tolerate a little short-lived noise.)If you are on the fence, I would recommend you try it - you can always return it if it doesn't fit your need.

Junk! This item has no power at all. I inserted a Staples-brand #2 pencil and had to work to get it into the sharpener. Then the sharpener whined, slowed, & totally stopped while sharpening! I backed off and it started up, but whined, slowed, & stopped when I tried again. Odd that a Staples product can neither fit nor sharpen Staples pencils. I tried with many different pencils, plus those of my students, then put it back in the box and returned it to Staples.

I am a second grade teacher. I bought this encil sharpener in September. By the end of November, it was not fully sharpening the students' pencils.
I have tried letting them use their own (too messy) and a hand-turned version for the class (too slow). I have decided to buy the $124 industrial strength model. It's worth the money to have one less annoyance.

I bought this for my classroom. 3 months later, it doesn't work. Every pencil you sharpen, sharpens unevenly, no matter how you twist or turn the pencil. I've seen a full sized pencil be ground to the nub in one sharpening. I am so disappointed. I expected better from Staples. Now I have to buy another sharpener, spend more money, so in the end, what did I save?
