    Awesome value - built like a tank

    Honestly, I was expecting to be disappointed when I selected this item. I had to shop within our budget - and I had to pass up the item I 'Really' wanted.

    When the item was delivered, I tried dragging it in the office myself, and wow - I was shocked. This thing is heavy. Got some help and brought it up... put it where it goes, and honestly, I was amazed. This thing is STURDY. Very durable, very good construction. The sliders are nice and smooth, the drawers are heavy-duty, and this is an amazing buy for the price. Even the top - sturdy enough to put a medium sized laser printer! Wow! Needless to say, we need 2 more laterals ... and as soon as we've got the space cleared out, I'm buying 2 more. The single drawback to this cabinet, is the locking device isn't all that good. It could probably be replaced, but - we don't need one anyway. Overall - this is an excellent value, and I WILL be buying more.

      This is a very good value for the money. Drawers work well and very solidly constructed -- but even so, fully loaded the metal 'warps' so that visually you can see it strains to hold a load of files. Depending on price range you might consider a heavier unit. One specification left out of the descriptions is the gauge or thickness of the metal used to build the unit. This is a pretty good home unit but not really commercial grade in terms of construction. I would buy this again but if I could see a commercial unit at a brick and mortar store for comparison, the local staples did not have it, I might prefer it depending on price.

        purchased the black color,,very heavy when arrived to find there is a heavy concrete block glued to the back of the cabinet for stability...thought that was strange to find but it does the job.very heavy so i took each draw out to carry up the stairs....draws remove easy and return just as easy..got rid of all little filing cabinets and got just one to complete my job..put files front to back not legal size and works great when purchasing the extra tools to hang properly..

                This lateral file extends fully with a locking mechanism to keep the drawer attached. Vertical files are stored not front to back but side to side. Files are easily inserted and removed with the Staples HL1000 file cabinet.

              Several years ago I bought one of these Lateral File/Storage Cabinets. I really like the product. However, I am now having a problem and need some advice and/or help.

              I have misplaced the key, but the drawers were not locked. When we reached our new destination, I was able to open the drawers, but after we put the cabinet on a dolly and moved it into a different room, the drawers will not open.

              What must I do to either get another key or get the cabinet into a position so that the drawers will once again open?
