The mat is thin enough to allow the wood floor underneath to be easily visible. I use this at home and initially purchased a commercial quality mat which looked almost white due to the thickness and was very unattractive. This mat might not last as long as a thicker mat but I just spent a lot to renovate my office with a new floor so I was concerned about the appearance. This mat looks great, works great, protects the floor and was almost [$] cheaper than the thicker mat.

Product bore a stick-on adhesive label that was extremely difficult to remove. Acetone (fingernail polish remover) didn't work. I finally had to resort to an industrial solvent that I use on farm equipment to remove all traces of glue.
Product, while it seems suitable for light-duty use, is very fragile.
I accidentially hit a corner of the product against the edge of a desk -- with only light-to-moderate force and an area about the size of a fifty-cent piece fractured on the rounded top corner of mat.
Comments about Staples Hard Floor Chairmat, Standard Lip, 36''x 48'':
I shopped online for chair mats to protect my hardwood floor from my son's computer chair. This was the best price and it's a great value. Just what I needed, and I was glad I hadn't paid for one of the higher priced choices.
Comments about Staples Hard Floor Chairmat, Standard Lip, 36''x 48'':
Initially ordered the larger one which took up way too much space. I have just put in new hardwood floors and wanted to ensure the wood was not destroyed by my office chair wheels. This does the job more than adequately and it was a good price.
It really depends on what type of wood floor and how heavy the weight in the chair is, but slippage should be minimal at best.

Q:
Is this product good for protecting linoleum flooring? I have an office chair with dual wheel casters and it left some little bumps in the floor. The floor did not tear apart, but it got a little wrinkly from the chair.
Will this product help distribute the weight from the chair better?
Yes, it will work very well for the purpose you intend to use it for.

Q:
I am buying this for my son and he weighs over 300 lbs. Is the mat up to strain?
No, this mat will protect your floor from wheel scuffs and marks; however, it will not prevent your chair from slipping. Currently; we do not carry non slip floor mats, but we may be able to special order it for you. If you would like us to research this further, please contact us at 1-800-333-3330.

Q:
This product is going to be used in a warehouse with a concrete floor. Will it freeze? How thick is 85 mil converted to inch (3/16)?
This item is fairly think, so scissors will not do the job.

Your local hardware store should have a pair of snips, a nibbler, or similar tool that can cut the vinyl. A pair of pruning shears might work in a pinch. Be careful when cutting, too - the objective is to keep the fingers attached to the hand. ;)
