I first bought the Montbrook model but returned it as not the best fit. This chair was much better with a little less lumbar extension, which I am sensitive to due to low back issues.
In stock form after a few hours I felt this chair leaned back a little too far fr me. But if you read chair reviews here you will find that some people make a little adjustment to get a chair to feel better.
The tilt mechanism on all of these type chairs is bolted to the seat pan or base, and often there are enough bolt threads to add spacers (larger then the bolt size nuts usually work) to either the front or rear positions to change the tilt angle. In this chair's case, the front already has a spacer stapled to the seat pan to lean it backward. I first put 3/8" nuts between the tilt plate and pan which were 1/2 the spacers height in place of the spacer (also another nut between the bolt head and tilt plate not to have the bolt go to far into the cushion), but finally settling on just putting the spacer between the bolt head and tilt plate so the plate and pan were together. This provided the forward tilt that made the chair comfortable for me. Note that my wife with a good back was comfortable in the chair's original configuration, but also has no issue with it's current setup.
The only issue during the setup of the chair was as noted in other reviews, that the casters can be a little harder to get into the base then other chairs. Using a very light coating of grease, petroleum jelly or oil on the caster's stem makes it a little easier, but I used a rubber mallet from my tool box to knock them in. Not enough of an issue to reduce the rating.
Overall a nice, good looking chair. My wife is considering buying three of these for her nail techs at her salon.

This chair is comfortable and gave me good back and shoulder support which is what I needed. However,"[*]" as usual has its drawbacks and parts were defective.(The 2 riot nuts that hold the arms to backrest were defective. We had to drill them out and re-tap them with a bigger screw and larger thread.) Thank God my husband is very handy, otherwise we would of had to return the chair. What happened to MADE IN AMERICA?
Comments about Staples Karston Bonded Leather Managers Mid-Back Chair, Black:
The manufactorer needs to beef up their quality control (no fault of Staples). I had to return two chairs before getting one that wasn't damaged in some way. Make sure you inspect this product before assmebling it to save time and effort. I found straches and small tears in the cushioning.

This chair is a real bargain. After years of putting up with office chairs, it is a pleasure to find a comfortable chair, at a good price. I thank Staples!

I love the look, modern, and comfortable. I am not tall and in most chairs my back isn't really touching the back of the chair unless I push myself into it. This seat is short, good for shorter people. The slickness of the vinyl seat - - my only complaint because I sort of slide around in the seat, am used to a microfiber material which helps you stay put in the seat.

This is a very nice chair except for the fact that you slide downward when sitting back in it. Its like it is leaning forward. I have had it approximatly 2 months and I am buying a new one. It actually makes your back hurt because of the posture you have while sitting for periods. You have to keep scooting back in it to be sitting right. It also is hard to adjust for leaning or rocking. The handle does not want to pull out. I literally have to get out of the chair and do it. Unfortunatly, I cannot return it so i am going to have to try and re-sell it to get back my losses. Really sucks, othan those flaws, the chair is solid and very nice looking.
The back size of the Staples Karston Bonded Leather Managers Mid-Back Chair is 19-3/4"W x 24-3/4"H.

Q:
I purchased this chair. Everytime I try to sit back in it, I slide downward as if it is leaning down in the front. It causes alot of pain in my lower back from this. Is this something that would be covered by the warranty or do i have to buy a different chair?
The chair comes with an adjustable tilt level that could correct the problem. The manufacturer has supplied a 5 year warranty with the chair that should cover any defects with the product.

I am short (5 ft) and sometimes great chair for average height can be difficult for me to handle. Is mid back good for me or should I go for another ergonomic option ( I work from home and use my chair for 8-10 hours/day on average).
Bonded leather is an artificial material composed of 80% to 100% leather fibers (often waste scraps from leather tanneries or leather workshops). It consists of collagen fibers obtained from macerated hide pieces bonded together with latex binders constructed into a fibrous mat to create a look and feel similar or sometimes identical to that of genuine leather but at a fraction of the cost. Depending on the quality a man-made pattern is usually discernible as a "grain-like" look.

I want to be positve that this chair reclines. The last chair I got did not recline so I did not order it
The back of the chair is not adjustable, so it is not very likely that this chair will recline.

This chair does not fully recline, however, it does tilt back.

The chair has an adjustable tilt tension. For a firmer/stiffer -- turn the round handle frontward and for a softer/looser -- turn the round handle backward. If you would like to place an order, please call us at 800-333-3330. You also have the option to order online.
