I have rated the bin capacity on this shredder as adequate - it is a small shredder and I use it for my small business. I don't shred tons of documents, but I do use it for sensitive client information.
The clear bin drawer that slides out the front of the machine for emptying is great. One can see when the drawer needs to be emptied, and a sturdy pull handle on the front of the bin is the ultimate in easy access. It's not like those machines where the heavy shredder head has to be removed from the top of the bin and placed somewhere so that the bin can be emptied. I like the quiet operation - machines don't have to be noisy to do their jobs well. I also like the ease of operation. All the buttons are right on top of the machine next to the shredder slot and there aren't too many of them. The machine has an automatic shut down; one does't need to remember to turn it off after use. The machine is supposed to be able to shred cds, credit cards and even paper clips, but I haven't tried it on those things.

Decent little shredder with minor flaw
Was looking for a shredder, as my last shredder of 6 years finally gave up the ghost. Chose this shredder based upon it's speed, shred capacity and relatively low price.

Pros: Fast shredding, small footprint, shreds CD/CC/etc
Cons: Small bin (can still shred quite a bit before emptying though), inane power-save 'feature'
All in all, this is a pretty decent little shredder, its shred-size is good, though not as small as the newer 'micro-shred' shredders but costs 25-40% less.
The biggest drawback is the power-save 'feature,' you cannot disable. Phantom drain for a shredder of this size would be minimal and acceptible, why it has to power completely down without the ability to disable is ludicrous. A sleep-mode with a sensor to 'wake up' would have been a much better option. When I want to shred something, I don't want to have to push the power button multiple times to turn it on; I want it to shred right away. Why else would I have left it on?! At the very least, have a switch to disable this unwanted 'feature.'
I am half drawn to returning the item before the grace period is over; it is THAT frustrating. Some people may sarcastically say "The power button is right there." but having to turn it on, sometimes it takes several presses, multiple times a day is something I, personally, don't want to deal with.
Comments about Staples Mailmate M7 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder:
I liked the design and features, but this shredder is a great disappointment. After a few minutes of inactivity it automatically shuts off. When you go to restart it you may have to press the button a random number of times (I have so far had to do it up to 7 times in a row). I requested a replacement thinking I had a flawed unit, but it is just the same. Don't buy it unless you don't mind having to press the ON button numerous times each time you have to shred. Very annoying. I am returning mine.
Comments about Staples Mailmate M7 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder:
I bought this shredder after my other one (less than a year old) stopped working. This one is smaller, quieter and probably faster than the previous one, all pluses. The one thing that is not so great is that the bin pulls out to empty, so if you fill it up you will end up with shredded paper all over the place. Probably a minor convenience if you remember to empty it often--but that's something I generally forget to do.
Comments about Staples Mailmate M7 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder:
I enjoy the drawer front. It is much easier to empty than lifting the heavy mechanical part off the shredder of the underneath basket. It is small, nicely designed and just right for my personal use. I only do the daily mail for a minute or two every day or two and that works fine. It is still new so I do not know if it is long lasting etc. I am careful not to shred for extended periods of time and do only minimal numbers of pages at once so I don't wear it out too quickly. Shredders have a reputation for having a short life span.
I would suggest contacting our Staples Brand Product Support team as they would be able to assist you with getting the bin out of your shredder. You can reach them at 800-425-0049.

Q:
I must have shredded too much paper, because the bin is stuck and will not remove.. Does anyone know how to get the bin out?

Q:
Can this unite be left powered on all the time? I realize it goes to sleep after 5 minutes, but should one routinely turn it off after use? I assume that while on standby it consumes little power.
Shredders should never be left on if they are unattended or not being used for a long period of time. To place an order for this product, please contact us at 1-800-333-3330.

A:
You don't need to leave it on. The power button is on top, big, and easy to press.
