I bought this reader for my wife, she is a Hair Stylist. Unfortunately there is no close category for salon, beauty profession so had to wait for technical support the NEXT day. Even though it says 24/7 support, there are hours that are NOT available BUT . . Called Monday and spoke to someone that was VERY helpful and was able to work us through the process of setting up the Business Info section. It did/will take some time to go through the whole process but, just spoke to my wife as she had just used the mobile register, and she likes it very much.

Would recommend this to others.

HIDDEN FEES!!!!!!

We bought for our school fundraiser yard sale because of all the good reviews, everyone said there are NO FEES if not used, and the low percentage fee per transaction, PLUS Staples website also indicates that there ARE NO HIDDEN FEES!!! We thought by being able to accept credit cards, we will be able to sell more at our yard sale fundraiser.

After one month of use, we ARE CHARGED A FEE!!!!! In the description, it clearly states, 'NO HIDDEN FEES', which is a COMPLETE LIE!!! Went back over all the paperwork and nowhere does it say you'll be charge a monthly fee of $5 if the swipe percentages doesn't equal $5 or more. Heck, Staples Mobile charge us $0.30 too much. This may not seem like a lot, but remember, this is for a school fundraiser for the students and every penny counts!

REBATE!!!! What a farce again! Customer Service indicated that I needed to get a number off the box (which was thrown out over a month ago) to complete the rebate. In the directions, it indicated that once registered, you'll be able to collect the rebate. Well, we just located the form to sign and submitted online. There IS NO REBATE considering it is applied to your Staple Mobile account AFTER 60 days of activation before, they issue a credit towards your account. Of course, this is not mentioned on Staples.com description of the product.

It's going to take 60+ days before you can get your $15 rebate credit, in the meantime, if there isn't at least $5 in transaction fees per month, then you will be charged $5 or whatever the difference is per month. There goes part of your $15 rebate credit for the first month, same for the second month and by the third month, the credit is completely gone because they took it back in their monthly fees aka 'HIDDEN FEES'. In the end what you thought was a good deal on getting a FREE Staples Mobile Credit Reader, really IS NOT good deal because IT IS NOT FREE in the end!!!!!!!

Will be closing the Staples Mobile account immediately. If we still had the box, we would most definitely return.

P.S. Customer Support was a great help in opening the account, which was quite difficult to do. There is one Account login ID and password, and then there is an app login ID and password - both apps on your phone look identical per customer support.

This is a POSITIVE ADDENDUM to my original review on 9/11/14 titled "Staples Merchant Services Picky".

I had previously left a one star review regarding Staples Merchant Services because they had initially turned me down for an account for a "Prohibited Business Type" for my licensed Computer Repair business. At the time I was very unhappy.

Since I left the negative review, I was contacted by Staples Merchant Services National Sales Manager. He read my review online (he reads all of them) and reached out to me personally to apologize and make the situation right. He was a great guy and didn't try to pass the buck or explain it away. It was a mistake/procedure error on their part and he owned up to it. In my book that says a lot.

He personally did the underwriting on my account and walked it through until things were perfect and told me if there was any issues to contact him.

While I feel my original review was not in error, people and companies make mistakes and it's the good ones that cares enough to make it right. Staples Merchant Services certainly was one of those rare companies that does.

Going forward, I now feel you can buy this product with confidence. If for some reason you are turned down or dissatisfied, tell the customer service that you want the issue escalated. If that doesn't work, tell them that you want the National Sales Manager to review your case and contact you.

Bottom line: I am a very happy camper. :-)

(On a side note, I wanted to amend or add to my previous review but found that it is impossible. Even Staples website customer service wouldn't do anything about it, so I had to leave a second review. I hope this is read before seeing the other review.)

Pros: The hardware and the app works great. Price was good.

Cons: You might not get a merchant account because Staple's Merchant Services is very picky.

I opened a small home business servicing computers. I am legit and have several business licence's for my area. After I opened the merchant account and they did test successful test deposits to my account, I thought I was good to go. I even got a call from them verifying my information. No mention was given of any issues.

Then I got the standard form letter saying my account was declined due to I had a "Prohibited business type". I inquired and got a call telling me that they do not accept a home based computer repair company because their bank says it is "too risky". Oookkkaaayyy... I've seen cheer-leading squads, high school bands, cub scouts and other groups taking donations outside of Wal-mart using them. But my legit and licensed business is too risky?

They want to pass the buck and say it is "their bank" but since they pick their bank that is one and the same to me.

Bottom line: Before you purchase and waste your money, you better give Staple's Merchant Service's a call at (888) 759-3426 and find out if your business is covered. Or, better yet, just buy something else that doesn't have such foolish and senseless restrictions.

One of the most convenient and lest costly means of collecting payments from customers on the spot. Staples brand offers lower fees per transaction which translates to more $$$ in your pocket. What's also great is that they deposit to your account quickly!!! Only thing I wish is that each transaction for the day is deposited separately, and not one total for the day as then I have to go back and make sure I was paid for each transaction.
